This is a comments thread about FSM CD: Black Sunday

So, my question. Why all the hoopla? Is this just a collecting thing, where it is a chance to plug a hole in your collections, never do be heard again; or is it that I'm just out of the loop, and everyone does think this is a wonderful listen.

It's just fans celebrating a release of a much-desired score (to them). Obviously not everyone on the forum will share the same enthusiasm, although some members who previously didn't know about the score might decide to give it a go on the basis of other people's positive comments and encouragement. (And sometimes there will also be a couple of "watermelon announcers" as well.) But I enjoy reading about other people's enjoyment of a favourite title - it's nice.

"Black Sunday" is by no means a JW grail for me (and I barely remember watching the picture), although I would love to get it at some point. For me it's an issue of budget: coming right on the heels of the Cosma and Rozsa boxes, plus "Islands" and "Blue Max" (neither of which I've owned any of the preceding versions), plus the new releases from the two "Lands" labels (La-La ~ and Krizter~), plus a few other things I've picked up, I'm simply all spent out for the month.

I am not sure I understand what is going on here...nor do I care to try. I have a great relationship with Intrada, if I am allowed to characterize it. Yes, we are competitors, but I hope in a good sense in that we try to outdo each other in a friendly rivalry. We do assist on each others' productions from time to time, including several going on at the moment. And we share an art director (Joe Sikoryak). Some things we do a little differently... but it would be a boring world if everyone did things the same way.

I hope I don't sound too cool for school but I don't keep track of the rivalries and antagonisms on this message board unless something blows up to the point where I have no choice -- and even then, I find it tiresome beyond belief. I look at Intrada's board but I barely have enough time to post on this one.

I give people a wide berth here to criticize. There are many reasons: It's in the spirit of how FSM started (20 years ago!), it inspires debate, it grows the board, it fosters ideas. For a perfect example, 10Arrow's post above: I can't say that's going to help us move Black Sunday CDs, but it's thoughtful, it's couched fairly, it's interesting, and I even agree in some ways. I'm glad that people feel the freedom to chime in like that.

It's when people get hair triggers and simply act in an antisocial manner that I'm simply disappointed and wish they would show some emotional maturity.

Lukas

p.s. Robert Eastman, this song is for you: http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/store/MP3/0604/05_BE_HAPPY_AGAIN__JINGLE_O.MP3

Love it, just adore you, Lukas.....

OK here is how it is. The Williams scores I really like are his good ones. I don't care as much for the ones I don't like although they are pretty good too just not good enough to be his really good ones. I know that I would prefer that his good ones are released those being the ones I like the most. It's okay to release his not so good ones those being the ones I like less although they are pretty good too but I would prefer to have have the ones that are my favorites released as I think they are a lot better than the ones I like less but are not my favorites even though I still like them. I would also like to thank the shrink wrap people for sealing my CD's up safe and secure but I really hate the silver sticky gluey things that are along the top of the CD cases and are really hard to get off and sometimes wreck the cases or leave a sticky residue that sticks to my fingers and sometimes gets on my clothes. I really look forward too FSM's next Williams release but I hope it's one of my favorites or I will not like it as much but probably still buy it because there might be 10 thousand of them which need to be stored somewhere. Thank You, MRSCOTT

I couldn't possibly agree with you more. Right on every count. Possibly the most concise and informative post ever at this or any other board for that matter. I hope they pay attention and release only the good Williams scores although the other ones are pretty good too.

I certainly agree with you, Intrada is very customer friendly, exemplary in their service and dispatch. I believe I've made that clear here and elsewhere.

I'm not too quick to ignore, though. Mixed emotions, here.

I get very angry when someone attacks my friends for no good reason.

Eastman comes in here, insults Doug and Roger because he got banned from the Intrada webboard, but can’t admit that it was due to his own obnoxious behavior, which was witnessed by several people. Instead, he issues a groveling apology to Lukas, when he should be apologizing to Doug and Roger (and everyone else here) for his ignorance and immaturity.

The people who run Intrada's forum want it to be a calm, civil place that doesn't degenerate into FSM threads like... oh... this one, where a once-peaceful discussion about a cool score release has been run off the rails by a handful of fanboys who, once again, are incapable of praising something unless they simultaneously attack something (or someone) else.

Eastman needs to quit acting like a tantrum-throwing child who blames everyone but himself for the consequences of his actions.

I'm done with this thread. Looking forward to listening to my copy of BLACK SUNDAY, though.

I always enjoy it when people spew around a lot of bile, clearly enjoying all the aggravation they're causing, then when called on it insist they're just being "funny." That's classic playground behavior. Of course it passes muster if they're actually funny. But most of what gets "funny" across (tone of voice, inflection and facial expression) doesn't come across on the internet.

Disco Stu, I'm sorry to tell you this, but Charlton Heston is not in Black Sunday. You might be thinking of Two Minute Warning. I hope this doesn't affect your decision to purchase Black Sunday.

Thanks for telling that in such good words ( I can't because of my bad english)!

Of course noone's mentioned the REAL story, which was deleted from the forums. Mr. Eastman here pretty much insulted everyone left and right, for no real reason. It was hardly a simple difference of opinion.
But I guess that's off topic here as discussing his behavior there was there...

Grow up!

I have no respect for Fake or Fig, why would I apolgize? They should apologize to me. I always felt that Intrada's releases were sub-par(just listen to their wretched re-recording of "Spellbound", poor in execution and sound) except for the Goldsmith releases. Never voiced that opinion before because I did not want to offend Fake and Fig, now I don't care.

I hear there is a sale at Home Depot on wood planks....in case you want to build a bridge and get over it. smile

Seriously though, calling Intrada's releases sub-par is ludicrous and just sounds as if you are scrambling to degrade them and quite frankly, I myself take a bit of offense to it given the hard work they put into making great soundtracks available to us. If you think they are sub-par, then why the heck did you claim to have spent so much money on them. Seriously if you truly are done with buying their stuff, be done with it and move on.

John: Your are correct, no further comments on this subject. I spent a lot of money because I wanted to support these labels, whether I like the release or not. I can afford to, so in most cases I gave the CD'S away.

RM, sorry this all shook out the way it did, but what can I say? No one is totally perfect, yet no one is totally flawed, either. If you gave those away, I think it speaks well of you. As a personal aside, try to get past the anger- it hurts you more than the source.

Mine too! Man, you just cannot put a value on the quality of the presentation and liner notes. I remember the early days of CD when you were lucky if you didn't unfold the booklet to see blank white pages. Can't wait to delve into this!
