As an owner of the Blue Box, I would happily give permission for any re-release of the score to be immediatly cancelled, if it meant I couold see the moive on the big screen....just once....

Well, younger-than-me Superman fan, as already mentioned, it does appear as though "Superman: The Movie" will get another big screen showing. Maybe not in Old Blighty, but here in the US it will. Yes, I'm thrilled. smile

Is it the original theatrical cut, or some "special edition"? Does it have the awful sound effects they added for the DVD/Television release? Is the music in stereo?

Am I to understand this correctly? Only people in the Fairfax, Virginia area can see this? (Unless of course they can afford a plane ticket there...)

While the milksops from my generation were worshiping Princess Leia, I was going gah-gah over Miss Teschmacher.

Yeah Valarie Perrine was one of my favorite 70's girls going back to Steambath. She was drop dead gorgeous in Superman. How Sups had the will power to past her up is beyond me. My youthful eyes will never forget the scene in the pool. (or in the steambath)

That's like saying New Coke is the greatest Coke ever made. Or as a character on television once called it, "Sugary piss water".

OR....Its actually a better Superman movie than Superman:The Movie.I love the Donner original, but lets face it,take off the nostagia goggles and the film is REALLY dated. Not to mention really campy.I loved it as a kid but today as an adult,Man Of Steel is my go to Superman movie.

If you're stuck in the past, you're stuck in the past. But just because you prefer 16mm doesn't mean others can't or shouldn't watch DVDs. big grin

First things first: your avatar rocks! (But what's my wife doing in it?)

S:TM is a rightfully icon film in the CBM canon. It will always hold a place as the film that lifted live action superhero cinema out of the camp zone.

That said, Man of Steel is the new era Superman movie we needed.* It's awful that WB reverted to being a bunch of pantywaists who ixnayed Snyder's take after being completely onboard with it.

*If one requires proof, look no further than the unforgivably pastiche hot mess that is called Superman Returns — a waste of talent (minus Singer's) and money every which way.

We can agree to disagree less I go into a very long rant.

I'm only stuck in the past when the originals are far superior to the remakes/reboots.

Looks like you missed the point I made mere minutes ago: S:TM won't work today. They even tried to mimic its aesthetic with Superman Returns. It bombed.

The bottom line is that when you reboot 30-40 years later, you have to do it from the ground UP. And not draw from only one comics Age.

Yeah, I love Superman the Movie, but it really does feel dated in a way I kinda didn't expect from when I first saw it. For me, Superman II even more so. That surprises me, because a lot of other movies from the period that I still love don't feel as dated.

I haven't seen The Man of Steel (except the big spoiler ending), but I did see Bats v. Supes, which didn't make me feel in a hurry to see MoS. But I did think Cavill made a good Superman, so one day I will. I suspect it also will feel dated in a decade or two.

You should watch it. Great movie, IMO. There is a LOT of action. It makes Returns feel like a fairy tale in that regard. Michael Shannon's a fantastic antagonist, as usual. Check TNT and AMC. Plenty of airings.

Waiting for it to show up someday on one of my streaming services. No commercials, no additional costs.
