Had to give ole Lonely are the Brave another listen, and was once again treated to one of JG's best ever.

You've really, *really* got to get the (quite affordable) DVD release of the film (remember it also has a featurette on Goldsmith's score). Then you'll appreciate this incredible music even more, trust me.

Oh, also gave The President's Lady a couple of more spins, solidifying my conviction that this is an Alfred Newman fan essential.
When not obsessively spinning Dr. Kildare, I went headphones-deep into Alien 3 and became even more impressed. I think only the Goldsmith tops this one.
Relistening to Young Bess from the Rozsa Treasury, one of my favorite pieces from this wonderful box.

So exciting seeing your continued enthusiastic exploration of these composers, WagnerAlmighty. smile Did you finally make it through the whole Rozsa Treasury box?

Played the Leigh disc of Fuller at Fox today and loved the music! Excellent composer.

Yep...thanks to the tireless efforts of FSM, Intrada and others, I have become a big fan of Leigh Harline over the last decade. smile

Mr. Jack, you and WA both have excellent taste. smile Yeah, there was an extended period of time where we got a lot of good Harline from the labels, House of Bamboo being my very favorite of the whole bunch. It seems to have largely dried up, but I do hope a few more Harline score releases trickle out...

Disc #3 (Assignment: Vienna by Dave Grusin & John Parker and Shirts/Skins by Jerry Fielding)

My favorite music on that generous TV Omnibus by far, Mr. Jack! (Then Came Bronson is also really good of course...but not quite as addictive to me....mmm, cimbalom!)

Oh, I have and have enjoyed watching that same affordable LatB dvd. Might be my favorite Western movie.

Not all the way through the Treasury, there's too much music already to savor.

I was super happy with all the Alfred and Harline compositions on Fox at Fuller. Hell and High Water is a definite grower...I'm thinking of the dissonant underpinnings on a couple of the cues. That whole, almost Pendereckian thing the Alfred did with the choir in the Robe...it was actually a bit of a trademark for him, and aligned him more closely to the decadophonics (great band name) then, say, Rozsa's Christ in the desert (King of Kings).

Goldsmith's Warlock once again charmed me this afternoon. It could be my cantankerousness kicking in, but there's something I liked about that score from the first time I spun it. It may still be on sale, if so everyone into Goldsmith should already have this one! Don't believe the negative hype.

Due to my being oft-charmed-by-the-uh, "different" Jerry Goldsmith, I'm looking forward to Link wink

Sorry to hound you. It's one of my favorites and I hadn't realized/remembered you did eventually pick it up.

Fair enough. Which discs have you not gotten to yet, out of curiousity?

Agreed on all of this. While I loved House of Bamboo immediately, I confess my initial listens of Hell and High Water were not amazing to me...but over time it has grown on me indeed and now I just adore its dark murky depths.

I find Warlock a more enjoyable listen than Link, but Link is an equally fascinating and unique score. I'm so glad you seem to like the former as much as I do; I have never understood the hate that score has received (much like Inchon in that regard). It's super gloomy but somehow I really enjoy listening to it and find it quite addictive.

I played cue #14 "To Love and Part" from Alfred Newman's Counterfeit Traitor. Really masterful, and it was fun to start listening to the this already prized score from halfway in on.

Great Kritzerland release!

WALL-E - Thomas Newman

Wanted - Danny Elfman

Both movies were released in theaters a decade ago today.
