My copy arrived today (along with islands in the stream).

Black Sunday sounds great, and the liner notes are an interesting read! I enjoy the cover art, it really looks like the LP probably would have looked. Thanks FSM!

I want no plaudits, just something I like doing.

Oh please...

Tell you what, this board has gone seriously weird lately.

Watched the film for the first time a few nights back. Seemed to drag in various places to me. Whilst the superbowl footage -- with the real crowd and game -- looked great, it was the blimp arriving at the superbowl with the bomb that was wanting. There just wasn’t enough coverage and integration of it for my likes.

Williams’ score was somewhat angular and that surprised me. Stop-start rhythms in “The Explosion” sequence also tracked as the “End Title” it seemed. Reminiscent of Goldsmith’s action scoring. Staccato strings, tuba and timpani tied together, percussive effects, etc. Almost as if it was influenced by cues from LOGAN’S RUN such as “You’re Renewed” or PLANET OF THE APES.

Cool cover art for the CD!

Cheers
Chris

The postman just placed this holy grail in my hands. As always have to count the hours before I can run home and give Mr. Williams a spin. Just one of the amazing releases with which we've started this year. Thanks again to FSM and Paramount for this release.

Well I received mine today and what a great album! What's weird is that my booklet was wrinkled up and had creases across the black on the front but the case was otherwise in good shape. No damage to the CD or tray either. I've never received a booklet that was that wrinkled so I am sure it is an isolated thing. Did anyone else have this problem?

No wrinkled booklet, but the recording is terrific.

If you got it from SAE, e-mail and tell them (quoting your order number) and they'll probably add a replacement booklet to your next order package. They've done that for me recently, with a poorly printed Bullitt booklet.

It's a fantastic, small, creepy score. I will send them an email about the booklet as I hear they are fantastic with matters like that and they replaced my Superman The Music Booklet no problem when there were problems with the binding. My second booklet for that is actually a bit fragile too but I didn't want to trouble them again over it. I am careful when I handle it.

I tried ordering tonight but the credit card wouldn't go through (they said they were having problems with the server). Is anyone else having this problem?

Try ordering via PAYPAL.

Yeah, I got a Yakuza booklet that looked oddly "chewed-up" at the bottom. confused Thankfully, SAE gave me a new one gratis when I asked. smile

I got mine yesterday. My booklet was in mint condition so that means I get to feel superior to all of you with crumpled ones. (This ring ain't gonna kiss itself, folks, so step up.)

You can really hear early and strong hints of Williams' subsequent battle music for the Star Wars flicks, especially "New Hope" and the Duel of the Fates from "Phantom Menace." And, yeah not-so-subtle reminders of "Jaws."

The first 12 tracks are so-so...tension-building wallpaper, basically. But as soon as Track 13 ("Preparations") kicks in, this is some fine action scoring. Even the source cues are a hoot.

Can't wait to rent the DVD this weekend and see how it's used in the film itself. Been years since I last saw it.

Thanks again, Lukas and Mike and everyone involved.

Now can we please have an expanded "Yes, Giorgio?"

I finally ordered it (the credit card problem I mentioned before was taken care of), and for the record, I have dealt with both SAE and Intrada and they are great. No complaints from me.

Maybe I'm one of the few who really enjoyed the movie, first at the drive-in yeaaaaaars ago, and was happy to find the DVD for $5 last year. For me it's still a pretty tense, tightly wound thriller and Bruce Dern is fabulous.

And what music - it's wonderful, a shade of Williams we've not heard since...well, since 1977 when the film was originally released. Hard edge, brutal at times. Lovingly presented to us, as well.

How does it feel, to work on something like this, knowing - or hoping you know - how it'll be received ?

Top notch all around. Packing, notes, brilliant music. Now maybe I'll stop listening to Innerspace for a few days?

I saw it on cable back in '08, and it was amazing, a great edge-of-your-seat thriller. I fell in love with Williams' score (especially "The Explosion" cue) almost immediately and I'm glad I ordered it.

Great music. Dunno if this has been mentioned yet, but anyone else just floored by the incredible impact Williams got out of the low brass in their note at 1:26 in track 19, The Take Off? I mean, that's a very powerful sounding low note (and 'modern' technique) even by today's standards! Just a slight crescendo into the beat then, WHAM!!

Great edge of your seat thriller. At 240 minutes a better accolade would be great back in your sofa sleeper. Amazing is a word that only refers to the colossal box office bomb this film turned out to be. Great score. Watching the movie is like watching a horse shooing off flys with his tail for a couple of days.

As I said in my Cinema Club entry (linked earlier in the thread), this film had what must be one of the most embarrassing anti-climaxes of all time, when everything basically dwindles out into nothing from that massive setup.

My mistake. 140 minutes. Seemed like 24 hourse. Easy to see why I made the mistake. Saw it only once. The only way I would consider seeing it again is as a double feature with Death Trap.
