here's a pretty good little featurette about scotty that (more importantly) features what i assume is a bit of the score. it's definitely a new arrangement of the theme, sounds pretty exciting.
Either the usual reason (JJ is too busy to sign off on the final artwork) or an unusual reason (they are still deciding which of the non-Giacchino "additional artists" cues will be on the CD)
Maybe coming up with cutesy track titles is a slow process?
CD track contents, and yes, Giacchino has gotten cute with track titles again:
1. Logos/Pranking The Natives (3:01) 2. Spock Drops, Kirk Jumps (1:43) 3. Sub Prime Directive (2:23) 4. London Calling (2:09) 5. Meld-merized (2:40) 6. The Kronos Wartet (5:25) 7. Brigadoom (3:41) 8. Ship To Ship (2:50) 9. Earthbound And Down (2:37) 10. Warp Core Values (2:56) 11. Buying The Space Farm (3:17) 12. The San Fran Hustle (5:00) 13. Kirk Enterprises (3:00) 14. Star Trek Main Theme (3:25)
Brigadoom? Love it....along with Sub Prime Directive. And Kronos Wartet.
Seems to run only about 45 minutes, without even a lengthy credits suite. The first was such a good album, I hope they put as much care into assembling this one. As silly as it is, I wish for longer cues, but even so can't wait to hear this!
Me too. And yeah, with the short album it looks like another Deluxe Edition is coming our way. At least this normal version fits with my other CD cases.
Isn't 45 minutes pretty standard for a first release soundtrack?
Depends on the composer and the label. Usually Varese releases pretty long Giacchino albums. All 3 double-disc Lost albums (Season 3, Final Season, Last Episodes) each clock in at 2.2 hours or more, which is an average of over 60 minutes per disc. Lost Season 4, Lost Season 5, Let Me In, Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol, and Super 8 are all 70 minutes or longer. Alias Season 1, Alias Season 2, Lost Season 1, Lost Season 2, Mission Impossible III, Speed Racer, and Land Of The Lost are all 60 minutes or longer. In fact, the only Varese-released Giacchino score that is shorter than Star Trek (09) is The Family Stone, and that's when Giacchino was just making it into the film world (and apparently that film had some Christmas songs: maybe the 43 minutes of score are all that are in the film). Anyway, Varese usually releases long Giacchino discs, but in the case of Star Trek, they know there are enough fans out there who will want the complete score and will buy more music if they release an expanded album. Heck, I'll be one of them.
Looks good and will hold me over 'til the deluxe edition comes out, although I do wish it was a little longer! According to the back cover only 2 tracks contain the "Star Trek". I was hopping he was going to use it a little more, or maybe it's just not in the tracks selected.
I love the cover as well but, personally, I would have moved the title up a little so it didn't cover the ship.
So glad the rumors of a song being included were not true!
i'm relieved they didn't use the 'dark knight'-esque artwork i assumed they'd go with for the cover art.
does anybody remember if 2009's OST came out on iTunes before the CD hit the shelves? (i recall listening to it on a trip at the end of april 2009 when i know it didn't come out until may.)
