Twilight Time has released the specs for their upcoming Blu-ray of Antony and Cleopatra. As expected, it has an isolated score showcasing Scott’s music with the option to play the film with the overture and some exit music. So for this more familiar with this score, is this exit music on the CD?

The specs:

Special Features: Isolated Music Track (with optional Overture and Exit Music) / Audio Commentary with Film Historians Eddy Friedfeld, Lee Pfeiffer, and Paul Scrabo / The Making of Antony and Cleopatra with Filmmaker Fraser C. Heston / Original Theatrical Trailer

Just bought Antony and Cleopatra! A lot of fans seem to particularly dig this one, so I figured I'd delve. Excited to explore more of this guy!
People That Time Forgot any fun? Seems up my alley.

PEOPLE THAT TIME FORGOT is a marvelous, colorful and nicely thematic score - the one that first got me into John Scott. He makes wonderful use of the main theme throughout.

After Antony and Cleopatra, Far From Home, Lionheart and The Deceivers, where would ya'll suggest I go from there? If you had to name a particularly awesome one.

Oh, pft! I forgot to mention that one! I've had it for years. Until recently, it was the only work of his I was familiar with.

Any love for Second Jungle Book? I'm reading criticism that it's 'too quirky and cartoony' or whatever, and that sounds precisely up my alley! That's like telling me "You wouldn't like this pizza, sir, it has too much pepperoni and mushrooms! How about a nice anchovy pizza instead?".

Shoot to Kill, if you can find it.

Try for yourself, here's a short suite from one of John's own demonstrational albums that his agent at the time would send out for potential jobs: https://picosong.com/wVypU/

Kudos to whoever coughs loudly during a soft passage from the end title at 6:24. One of the funnier recording flubs I've heard! This score is admittedly far from his finest effort (not even in the top 30), but I really do enjoy portions of it a lot, including what you hear in this suite. Yes the tone is hardly very serious for the most part but it's still written in that high-quality symphonic sound that is Scott's trademark. Think of it almost as a "kid-friendly Greystoke" I suppose!

Kasey, I envy the place you're in. Discovering John Scott's filmography for the first time. Such treasures await you!

Are you familiar with any of his Cousteau scores? Or stuff like 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA, MAN ON FIRE, SHERGAR, WALKING THUNDER, NORTH STAR, so on and so forth...?

And you'll love PEOPLE THAT TIME FORGOT. Some of the action music is slightly clunky (he still hadn't fully mastered action writing just yet at this time), but there's lot of color, a fantastic main theme that gets just a killer send-off during the end titles, and a wonderful, wistfully tragic and haunting secondary melody as well for Doug McClure's ill-fated character in the film, most of the renditions of which were dropped from the film as I recall. Get it!

Or how about any of these?

The man has produced masterful composition after masterful composition for almost sixty years now. Just listen to that surging string theme at the 5:00 mark in the Belem suite. His sense of harmony is so inspired and adventurous, and his melodic creativity just never fails to thrill. I don't know any other composer who so effortlessly writes such evocative, pictorial, sensorial and memorable music.

Long live the Scott!

I have a friend that's lending me a bunch of Scott scores eventually, so I'm checking out the comparitively minor stuff until then. Until his generous offering, KKL was the only work of his I was familiar with. He sent me Far From Home (among others like The Deceivers and Lionheart), and I just utterly fell for that score and have craved to hear more since! I love KKL, but had no idea he was that good beyond that! Really excited for when he sends me Shoot to Kill particularly!

Dude, you have no idea what musical joys await you.

Here's a teaser of DECEIVERS and LIONHEART to whet your appetite:

And we haven't even talked about the masterpieces that are HAREM and ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA yet!

I didn't connect to Deceivers as much as the others so far, but there were still highlights to be had (the love theme and the waltz, some great action riffs, to name what pops to mind). Least interesting J. Scott score I've heard so far, but still glad I listened for the aforementioned highlights. I'm utterly loving Scott's consistently lush orchestrations, that make even less interesting suspense cues at least engaging. I bet I could put together a good 30-minute playlist from this.
Lionheart was sublime! Super fun, funky and gritty stuff! Everyone told me how wonderful the end credits cue to that one is, and it still surpassed my expectations.
Can't find much on North Star, but it sounds like a jolly good Klondike Kid kind of fare.

NORTH STAR has my favorite John Scott opening theme.

What is it with this guy and having consistently epic end title cues?! He always knows how to go out with a bang!

I'm curious about his 20000 Leagues Under the Sea score, but I already have Paul Smith's Leagues. How does it compare? It'd feel weird to own two of the same score, so to speak! razz

How about another unreleased Greystoke track? I'd be willing to contribute to a Go Fund Me or Kickstarter to get this made.
