Sorcerer's Stone would need three discs to be done right.

Agreed...not that I have given it any thought. smile

Sourcerer's Stone?

I'd rather have Philosopher's Stone if things were being done right wink

I don't like to speculate and I don't like expansions of anything. However, I will say this: I hope some label -- LaLaLand included -- will turn to some previously unreleased Williams scores soon. It's been quite a while since the last one.

There are quite a few to choose from:

YOU ARE WELCOME
SILENT FILM
A TIMELESS CALL
THE SUGARLAND EXPRESS
PETE'N'TILLIE
THE SCREAMING WOMAN
STORIA DI UNA DONNA
DADDY'S GONE A-HUNTING
SERGEANT RYKER
THE PLAINSMAN
THE RARE BREED
THE KATHERINE REED STORY
THE KILLERS
NIGHTMARE IN CHICAGO
GIDGET GOES TO ROME
THE SECRET WAYS
BECAUSE THEY'RE YOUNG
I PASSED FOR WHITE
DADDY-O

And those are just the films. There's a huge JUNGLE out there of unreleased tv music (and some concert music) by the maestro:

Sorcerer's Stone NEEDS to have the COCA-COLA Commercial music on the disc - though it appeared on the OST it was included in a track

Thor, THE RARE BREED and SUGARLAND EXPRESS are some great favorite hopefuls of mine. But I'm so curious that SUGARLAND has never seen the light of day apart from that theme Williams recorded on the Boston Pops album. I mean both Spielberg and Williams have complemented their legendary partnership over the years on media and the internet and still a formal release of their first Historical collaboration has failed to see the light. So I'd really be curious to see a proper restored score some day. And that RARE BREED is also a wonderful Americana score that I paid a lot of attention to when it came on Turner channels. A nice suite is also on a Silva compilation and worth having!

I have to admit that sometimes the career that Williams had before he was “STAR WARS/JAWS” guy is a little baffling to us "younguns". (Holy ****, I never realized Young Guns was a pun!). I could probably do myself a huge favor and become more familiar with pre 70's work.

Apparently, Williams doesn't want SUGARLAND released, although I've seen no direct quote from him where he says so, or why. Only indirect quotes. Maybe it's just an urban legend. He certainly condones the theme, which he has recorded a number of times.

I agree that THE RARE BREED is a wonderful score. The Silva suite proves that. It could certainly hold up to an "expanded" release, if you could call it, or at least a soundtrack of its own. I've seen the film, so I know there's some great music there.

I suspect many of the labels have looked into these titles, but come up short. Rights issues, lost tapes, what-have-you. But I still cling on to the hope. You never know. If we've seen one thing in the last few years, it's that a hitherto unknown Williams score can suddenly come in from the left (THE ELEVENTH HOUR, NIGHTWATCH, THE GHOSTBREAKERS and so on).

Well its strange that if he is somewhat shy of releasing this score the same way he was about the original JAWS recording and it then happened shortly after the RSNO Varese re-recording. I'd be thrilled if this Universal title THE RARE BREED gets out out as an expanded premiere cd.

Is it true that LLL's next Williams release has been pushed back to 2015?

Somebody on JWFan indicates that MV told them just that

Although "pushed back" indicates there had been some sort of confirmed release date.

The person who posted that on JWFan is the same person who started this thread. No idea who he is or why MV told him that.

Yeah I wonder why? [Gosh you make sound like a newbie imposter here Jason.unless youre joking?].LOL . But subsequently you have also re-confirmed the same update by the same source at the jwfan website. Since the info for the 2nd title was already in public domain from the interview online from the La La Land team and of course I asked and I was informed that the release has now been pushed back to 2015. The same reason EMPIRE OF THE SUN was pushed back last year in 2013- which I remember I confirming as well [refer to my first post above]

MV just posted on F acebook that the Williams title is due for this May, in a comment under this post:

Happy 83rd birthday to John Williams! No better way to celebrate it than to listen to our most recent William's expansion - the award winning EMPIRE OF THE SUN!

The comment:

Did I mention that we are wrapping up another William's expansion now? Artwork goes into the studio for approval shortly. Hopefully by May we will see the final product. smile

Probably nothing, but Mike Matessino posted on Facebook about EMPIRE OF THE SUN winning a Sammy award for best Bronze Age CD release, and in the comments someone says he needs to get to work on JAWS now as it's the 40th Anniversary of the film in June. Mike "liked" the comment. As I say, probably nothing but I just thought I'd throw it out there.

Even though MV poured cold water on it, I still think they're going to re-release The Towering Inferno this year. I'd bet money on it, not much, maybe £5 smile

how about the original EIGER SANCTION music? Or are the 1970s poison to cd sales? They could milk the Eastwood connection while he's riding high with his latest film.

I believe Varese has the rights to all those old MCA albums - Eiger Sanction, Earthquake, Jaws II, Dracula....

Jaws would be great!

And then maybe Varese would do Jaws 2, seeing as they joined in on the fun when everyone else was expanding the Star Trek movie scores.
