There are quite a few to choose from: ... And those are just the films. There's a huge JUNGLE out there of unreleased tv music (and some concert music) by the maestro: http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=86871&forumID=1&archive=0 I have to admit that sometimes the career that Williams had before he was “STAR WARS/JAWS” guy is a little baffling to us "younguns". (Holy ****, I never realized Young Guns was a pun!). I could probably do myself a huge favor and become more familiar with pre 70's work.

Thor, THE RARE BREED and SUGARLAND EXPRESS are some great favorite hopefuls of mine. But I'm so curious that SUGARLAND has never seen the light of day apart from that theme Williams recorded on the Boston Pops album. I mean both Spielberg and Williams have complemented their legendary partnership over the years on media and the internet and still a formal release of their first Historical collaboration has failed to see the light. So I'd really be curious to see a proper restored score some day. And that RARE BREED is also a wonderful Americana score that I paid a lot of attention to when it came on Turner channels. A nice suite is also on a Silva compilation and worth having! Apparently, Williams doesn't want SUGARLAND released, although I've seen no direct quote from him where he says so, or why. Only indirect quotes. Maybe it's just an urban legend. He certainly condones the theme, which he has recorded a number of times. I agree that THE RARE BREED is a wonderful score. The Silva suite proves that. It could certainly hold up to an "expanded" release, if you could call it, or at least a soundtrack of its own. I've seen the film, so I know there's some great music there. I suspect many of the labels have looked into these titles, but come up short. Rights issues, lost tapes, what-have-you. But I still cling on to the hope. You never know. If we've seen one thing in the last few years, it's that a hitherto unknown Williams score can suddenly come in from the left (THE ELEVENTH HOUR, NIGHTWATCH, THE GHOSTBREAKERS and so on).

Well its strange that if he is somewhat shy of releasing this score the same way he was about the original JAWS recording and it then happened shortly after the RSNO Varese re-recording. I'd be thrilled if this Universal title THE RARE BREED gets out out as an expanded premiere cd.

Is it true that LLL's next Williams release has been pushed back to 2015?

The person who posted that on JWFan is the same person who started this thread. No idea who he is or why MV told him that.

Probably nothing, but Mike Matessino posted on Facebook about EMPIRE OF THE SUN winning a Sammy award for best Bronze Age CD release, and in the comments someone says he needs to get to work on JAWS now as it's the 40th Anniversary of the film in June. Mike "liked" the comment. As I say, probably nothing but I just thought I'd throw it out there.

Even though MV poured cold water on it, I still think they're going to re-release The Towering Inferno this year. I'd bet money on it, not much, maybe £5

I believe Varese has the rights to all those old MCA albums - Eiger Sanction, Earthquake, Jaws II, Dracula....
