Most sad is that this thread will die as soon as almost all of us will cry "ORDERED!" and "CAN'T WAIT!!!!" in actual PR-thread. And add this sacramental "What's next?" But I'm really happy, that 2 CD-set is coming. Hope it will be $24.98, not $29.98 title - this great releases will bankrupt me.
It's a great score for a wonderful film, but I'm obviously satisfied with my old version of this soundtrack (what else is news, right?). I wasn't even aware that there was much unreleased music?!
The interesting thing in this batch for me is Corigliano's ALTERED STATES, which I've been meaning to buy forever, but never got around to. I'll have to take a few rounds of serious consideration now that this remastered version is out (which thankfully keeps the original program).
Thor. How can you call yourself a true John Williams fan and NOT be aware of that unreleased piece of music when Bale is pumping the young dead pilot's body! Incredulous!
Yay! And just when I'd decided to not get the CD of the original release because I chose to wait until I got a new turntable (whenever the heck that is).

I have the film on DVD, and have seen it maybe 5-6 times over the years, but I haven't really taken the time to analyze the music in context. I'm usually oblivious to these kinds of things anyway, as I don't buy soundtracks based on the going-ons of music in the movie.
But thanks for the tip. I'll keep an eye and ear out for that sequence the next time I watch it.
hard to believe someone who loves Williams and the film cant remember this wonderfull (cinematicaly, photographically, musically... emotionally) scene from near the end of the movie.
"I can bring everyone back..." this wonderfull (cinematicaly, photographically, musically... emotionally) scene....
Amen to that. That scene still has a very powerful effect on me. It's difficult to put into words what it did to me the first time I experienced it, but I think he was channeling Truffaut in that movie. I see a lot of "400 Blows" in the film, and he made it not long after Truffaut's death. Love that movie. Magnificent score.
Thor, how can you call yourself a Williams fan - and especially a fan of his religioso mode - and not realize that this film contains this great Williams cue:
And furthermore not realize that this great cue wasn't on the original OST?
It's easy -- films are not my starting point for enjoying soundtracks. In fact, soundtracks and films are two different worlds to me, and I don't care or am totally oblivious to what's missing on a soundtrack as long as what I have works as a listening experience. In short, 'missing music' isn't really an issue for me.
But all this has inspired me to re-watch the film again, with extra attention towards the music this time -- and especially that scene you're all harping about (I prefer to watch it in the context of the film rather than that Youtube clip).
I can't see anywhere if this one is a limited edition. Anyone?
They haven't issued a press release for it yet, so no information besides the title is available right now. But it will probably be 3000 or 3500 units, based on previous expanded Williams releases.
This has been one of my favorite 'overlooked' JW scores for a while. It was that one score I would mention when speaking of JW that people had no idea about. I'm thrilled it's getting the LLL treatment.
