I'm surprisingly not particularly interested by this after listening to the samples, mostly because I have never watched the film. I purposefully avoid it every time it is on TV. That leaves one more copy for the big fans.

You know, you do this a lot in our threads - tell everyone of your disinterest after hearing the samples. Why not just wait until we release something that you like (if that day ever comes) or purchase stuff from other labels, but no one really needs to hear you do this yet again. If it was one-off that would be something else, but it's not a one-off, as you know. And it doesn't quite jibe with this post from another thread, in which you stated: "Holy crap indeed. This is one I'm going to jump on as soon as I listen to the samples and verify that it sounds as good as Bruce says. Love the music on the Telarc release."

I'm glad you feel good about avoiding one of the most beautiful and moving films ever made.

It IS one of the darkest Christmas films out there. Capra usually puts you through the wringer before his redemption but this one he goes all out and really hits close to home for me. This is probably why it bombed when it came out. The postwar crowd had enough of reality and darkness. But this is why I love it. Compared to most of the bright-eyed Hollywood product of the time, it is a relief and parts of it should be categorized in the noir category. What sugar there is in it is judiciously placed and the ending has to be there so you can come up for air. I noticed Dimitri even held back on many Tiomkinsms letting "Buffalo Gal" dominate the homey stuff and letting the story unravel slowly and not pushing as he would sometimes do (that is until the end where everybody earned the exaltation).

Thank you Bruce for putting THE Christmas movie for me on CD. I am now in your debt.

I want to be clear - I have no problem if someone isn't interested in a title - I start to have problems when the same someone does this kind of thing repeatedly in our threads. I have no idea if it's done by him with other labels, but there's just no upside that I can see to repeatedly tell a handful of people that the samples don't do it for you.

My favorite movie of all time. But I wish they would release this more towards the Christmas season so I would be in the mood to listen to it. But by the time Christmas comes it will be sold out. So Thank You Kritzerland for this release.

Here's a thought. Buy it now, and wait to listen to it. smile (Scratches head and eats a piece of fruit)

It truly is a wonderful life when when we can reach deep into our childhhood memories and savor them. We do this with thanks for the creative labors of professional people who cherish these memories as deeply as we do.

This announcement warmed by heart Bruce. I thank you.

Lovely way to express it. I knew this would make any number of folks really happy, just as I knew it would bring out a few who wouldn't care and wanted us all to know it. smile

Well considering I have rarely seen the films these scores are released from, I find your enthusiasm for these releases to be quite contagious so I am usually truly excited when announced in the other threads. The composer in question especially got me excited about this one. That being said, you do a great job with selecting the samples of your releases so my favorite Kritzerland releases were purchased primarily because the samples really were gorgeous. And I do really enjoy those. Your point is noted though so I will try to restrain myself in the future.

EDIT: I don't mean to suggest that the sound quality is lacking because they do sound quite good. I just don't find that the sound has any particular extra charm that I sometimes find in the original tracks that is lacking in a re-recording.

Bruce,as I mentioned earlier in this thread this is a wonderful release. Please see if you and Chris Malone can do something with DUEL IN THE SUN and RETURN TO PARADISE. Any comment, Bruce ?

I sure would like to see these scores also. Do the music tracks even exist to both films?

I remember what Lukas Kendall said at his 2nd Annual Fans gathering about fans who post on threads about releases only to say they aren't buy it. He described it kind of like this...it's like someone going into Ralph's grocery store and picking up a water mellow and saying loudly, I'M NOT BUYING THIS. And then walking out. To each there own I guess, but if there are releases I'm not going to buy I don't go to the threads myself and say I won't be buying it. I don't understand the logic myself. Also, it's a neat film and all of that so maybe you should watch it sometime. OR since it is that popular you are avoiding it. Some folks purposely don't watch stuff that is super popular as they like to go against the grain.

I want to keep the labels in business so if I don't buy something I don't post in the threads letting folks know I'm not buying this. I know there is a logical reason as to why folks do that, but I'm not smart enough to understand the logic.

smile

Great release BK, we ordered two copies. One for us and one for a friend who's FAVORITE movie is this.

Bruce,

Well, all I can really do is reiterate what others have already posted:

1.) I thought the really nice Telarc re-recording was all we'd ever see (hear) of this score.
2.) I am forever in your debt for putting out the original tracks of this score; I never thought
I'd see that day.

So, as I said, nothing original in my comments, but I wanted you to hear them anyway.

I've no excuse but ignorance for having never watched the film despite being aware of its legendary and beloved status. I'll remedy that posthaste while I eagerly await the CD's arrival. "I'm dreaming of a white summer..."

The film is a miracle. Its message is beautiful, its dialogue is incredible and memorable and quotable, Capra's direction is simple and perfect and you will never see better performances. It is a film that gets to me every time, beginning with the first scene post-credits - I get a lump in my throat right there and it never leaves.

For anyone who has ever been in despair, and that includes me (anyone who's read my first memoir knows whereof I speak), this film is profoundly touching and, in the end, filled with love and hope.

Cody, I don't know who owns Duel in the Sun now - possibly Warners? If so, it won't happen with us. And I have no idea who owns Return to Paradise, but I recall a 10" soundtrack album that might muddy those waters.

Looks like this will be my first Kritzerland release! I've wanted that Pottersville Cemetery cue for many years. Samples sound great, keep up the wonderful work!

What have we 'ere?

I like the rustic sound of the old stuff. I also like Tiomkin's dashing style. Swish.
