Silverado (Broughton)

Oooh yeah, forgot he was in that one. Another great score.

You know until this thread I've never really given much thought to how well he's been scored throughout his career.

"JFK"

By the way, does anyone have an answer to my Kevin Costner question in the "VARESE: Rise of the Planet of the Apes (Doyle)" thread? I guess this is as good a thread as any to bring it up again.

I don't think he (Costner) was in the Rise of Apes film jenk.
I don't recall reading anything about it when the film came out and I don't remember noticing it when I saw it (both at the cinema and on DVD).
Probably just an actor who resembles him.

Thanks for responding, Kev.

Yeah, I tried googling it, and came up with one or two other references by people who thought they'd seen him at that spot too. Nothing more. I also tried Snopes. Nothing. The shot only lasts a few seconds, but man, the guy could be his exact twin --- in voice as well!! (For anyone who wants to check it out themselves, it appears on the DVD at approximately 1:27:34.)

Anyway, I did like the film. And the score (from what I remember of it). I've heard "Dawn of..." is even better.

To the OP: Sorry to have sidetracked the thread a little.

Another score to a Costner film I really loved was "The Untouchables", already mentioned by posters above.

I still have this CD I bought many moons ago..

I've always been a fan of Costner, there's a few of his films are among my all time favourites and I have most of his stuff on DVD. My favourite scores are 'Dances', 'Wyatt Earp' and 'The Untouchables'. I also like 'Field of Dreams', 'Thirteen Days' and 'JFK' (well, the main theme anyway).

Dances With Wolves

It’s a toss between “Field Of Dreams” or “Dances With Wolves” – however – if I had to pick one, I would need to go for James Horner’s “Field Of Dreams” –
I also love “Waterworld”, and I almost forgot about “Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves” – a shame that none of these scores got a definitive release by our soundtrack companies!

The only one lacking on disc is 'Robin Hood'. The others you mentioned are pretty complete on the available releases. I don't think further 'definitive' releases would really add much.

Without a doubt it has to be Dances With Wolves.

But Costner is very fortunate to have some great scores written for his films and my favourites, which are very close behind, are:
Wyatt Earp
Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves
Field of Dreams
Silverado
Waterworld
Open Range
JFK

Great scores!

And even some ok scores with a great theme:

The Bodyguard

He has been quite a few movies with just terrific scores!

My favorite Costner score is undoubtedly Barry's Dances with Wolves followed very closely by Morricone's The Untouchables.

Other ones I love (in order of which I love most)

The Bodyguard
JFK
Wyatt Earp
Field of Dreams
Waterworld
Silverado
Robin Hood Prince of Thieves
The Postman

I am trying to think of an actor that has a score list as good as Costner's...I think Harrison Ford beats him, and mainly because Star Wars & the Indiana Jones trilogies just can't even be rivaled (plus BladeRunner, Mosquito Coast, Witness, Patriot Games, C&PD, Presumed Innocent & Air Force One are all so great).

At 2:17...it begins...a low note that is going to build to a beautiful moment of John Barry's Score.

One of the best moments in movie music.

One of these days (hopefully soon!)

This score is an absolute gem. As is Wyatt Earp.

How many cues were still missing from the expanded release? 3 or 4? I would love to see DWW get a complete release some day. But I was very happy when it got the expansion treatment.
