This is great! I just caught this film on television maybe a week ago, and as soon it was over and checked SAE to find the album....and found out there was none! I waited a week for this, some of you waited nearly 60 years. Wow!
Dimi did so much work for Warners in the 50's. I've always been hoping for a box set - a la Herrmann and Goldsmith at Fox, Rozsa and Raksin at MGM - but I'll settle for this bona fide all-time desert island release!!! Gosh, thank-you guys.
I don't get it. I listed to the samples and was unimpressed. And my son tells me that when he and his sister were watching the movie they stopped it several times to say how terrible it was.

Ah well, de gustibus. . .
Yeah, the only parts that jump out at me are those with the tune that was later used in The Alamo. If that was all I liked then I might as well just listen to The Alamo.
There are numerous alternate spellings for this. Intrada decided to go with the one on the composer's manuscript. Since it isn't the authentic tune anyway, he could spell it any way he liked. "De Guella" is also the spelling used on the original Columbia soundtrack album of THE ALAMO btw.
I've never been so glad to be mistaken in my life. I truly thought this would never be released. My dad saw the film on its first release and has always desired this score. 55 years later I am able to tell him his wait is over!
Few composers are as polarizing to fans as Dimitri Tiomkin. I love his style, though - rambunctious and emphatic. RIO BRAVO is a classic exemplar of his western style and the movie benefits from his over-excited musical exclamations. I'm very keen on the previously unheard selections that were omitted from the final cut.
Thanks to Intrada for providing a milestone release of a too long neglected score.
Rio Bravo is an exceptional example of film scoring and composition. Extremely well crafted. Often wonderfully subtle and unique. Very glad to see the original tracks released. ORDERED !

Thank you Frank, your explanation regarding the spelling on the composer's manuscript makes sense. Yes, it's not History after all but Art : let's call this poetic license.
Can we coin a derisive slur for the fools who are compelled to express their meaningless "not interested" opinions in announcement threads? It is a pathology that needs to be shamed into oblivion.
Maybe I will start opening Elfman threads simply because I am not a fan and want to declare to every fan of his out there my position. But it has occurred to me that isn't just a waste of time, it is a waste of life.
