Shamus and Pursuit are my #1 unreleased Goldsmith grails followed by Black Patch and Face of a Fugutive.

All would be terrific candidates for re-recordings and could be two delightful doubleheaders! smile

What about Chinatown and Damnation Alley?
There are still unreleased in their original recording forms.

Wasn't Chinatown's LP program taken from the film recording? And Damnation Alley had a good suite of original tracks on the Fox Box, so I wouldn't consider it a full premiere if it comes out. I have another thread on Goldsmith expansions and I thought I'd focus on what potential premieres were remaining, if any. Goldsmith expansions come out constantly but we haven't had a premiere since over a year ago.

I did just realize that I forgot to include the film recording of Hour of the Gun on my list though...same situation as QB VII for that.

Someone said recently that the full Chinatown film recording is lost which is stunning to me. But that may explain why the LP program will continue to be the "definitive" presentation...

Well it is from the tail end (1974) of that period where a bunch of Paramount scores are missing, except for stems. But Chinatown has had an unmentionable of the complete score floating around for a while (though not in the greatest quality) so it's strange to hear that. I remember when Varese reissued the original album they didn't claim the complete score was lost as justification for doing so; they just said the album was the best presentation...and then other label luminaries made negative comments about the decision, including both MV of LLL and Bruce of Kritzerland. It's pretty unusual for label heads to overtly criticize another label's work so this was a rare instance I thought of it being acknowledged within the community that Varese had really screwed up...always thought we might get the complete score from someone else after Varese sold out their release.

I guess the presence of an unmentionable isn't the best guide though, because there's a complete one for Link yet Intrada couldn't find the tapes to release anything more than the original album program in good quality. And there's one for Peter Proud, as I've noted in my original post above with Doug Fake's quote.

I was under the impression that DUSTY just tracks in some Goldsmith music from other films, but never having seen it I can't confirm that.

Thanks David for the updates. I'll hold off on including "Dusty" (1983) until someone else confirms.

Yes, you'd think somebody somewhere would have heard it, or even seen it, if Goldsmith had actually scored it. He wasn't doing TV at the time in general, so it is a weird credit. The Internet Movie Database lists a ton of bogus Goldsmith credits, all because of something used as stock.

[EDIT: Based on interest from other people's posts, I decided to get a bit more specific and just updated this to reflect unreleased TV credits included on IMDb; hopefully people can help me iron them out.]

I know Thor has basically been asking this question for a while about Williams (yes, and Elfman and Goldenthal) but as you all know by now Goldsmith is my favorite composer, so I have to ask any label representatives who are feeling generous with their answers: should we Goldsmith nuts continue to hold out hope for any brand new (ie. previously unreleased) Goldsmith scores to come out, or are the surviving ones pretty much exhausted and we can only expect expansions from this point onwards?

NOTE: I'm not really asking about new recordings of "lost" scores, because it's been indicated that the Prometheus/Tadlow series is going to be a continuing one and James Fitzpatrick himself has expressed interest in recording Goldsmith's 1st and 3rd feature scores (Black Patch and Face of a Fugitive to release on his own Tadlow label). So I know we very likely have more goodies to hope for in that arena. The Salamander was so good and I can't wait to see if things like Shamus and Pursuit can be tackled too, or perhaps some of his lost TV music which would be cheaper to record because the orchestras written for were smaller. Maybe the most exciting thing would be a complete (first) recording of the unused score for Babe (the wonderful 90s talking pig film, not the 70s TV movie), which Dan Goldwasser confirmed to exist by posting a picture of the score sheets.

But in terms of original film recording premieres, those have (understandably) dwindled in recent years, with the last one being Varese's release of The List of Adrian Messenger well over a year ago. These are the remaining totally unreleased Goldsmith scores, and I was hoping that if any film music album producers here had information that they were lost, they could share it here so that we know to stop pining for them:

Black Patch (Lukas just recently confirmed this is lost)

Face of a Fugitive (almost certainly ditto, though no specific confirmation has been made)

Studio One in Hollywood (1 episode?)

Climax (at least 9 episodes?)

Peck's Bad Girl / For Better or Worse (TV series, unknown number of episodes)

Perry Mason (at least two episodes, though one of them was released on Early Years Vol. 1)

The Lineup (ditto)

Playhouse 90 (at least 10 episodes?)

Full Circle / Pete & Gladys (TV series credited on IMDb -- maybe just the theme?)

Rawhide / Wagon Train (at least one episode each)

General Electric Theater (4 episodes or more)

Thriller (whole bunch of episodes obviously, but they may only exist as M&E tracks)

Lilies of the Field (was the LP a different recording from the film one? If so, the film version is unreleased.)

The General with the Cockeyed Id (this actually has a "promo" LP and bootleg CD, but not sure if the original tapes are in good enough condition for an official release)

Breaking Point (2 episodes of TV show?)

Chrysler Theater (unknown number of episodes)

Kraft Mystery Theater (1 episode titled "Shadow of a Man"?)

Take Her, She's Mine (claimed to have unusable tapes in the notes to Varese's Goldsmith@Fox Box, but much more of scores like Von Ryan's Express and Shock Treatment were released later using superior restoration technology, so maybe the situation has changed?)

The Legend of Jessie James (unknown number of episodes of TV show)

The Trouble With Angels (LP was apparently a different recording from the film recording, which remains completely unreleased)

Gunsmoke (6 episodes or possibly more)

Hour of the Gun (LP was a different recording from the film version which is totally unreleased and declared "lost" according to Doug Fake some time back, leading to the complete re-recording which inaugurated the Prometheus/Tadlow Goldsmith series)

Prudence and the Chief (TV pilot)

Bracken's World (one episode of TV series entitled "A Score Without Strings")

Do Not Fold, Spindle, or Mutilate

Lights Out (TV pilot)

Crawlspace

The Last Run (LP was a different recording from the film version which is totally unreleased and declared "lost" according to Lukas Kendall some time back...but things change)

The Man

Pursuit (previously confirmed lost by Lukas Kendall)

Shamus (ditto)

The Waltons (ditto, 8 episodes aside from The Homecoming pilot film -- sans Walton main theme -- which Lukas released on FSM)

Barnaby Jones (music for one episode of this has been "floating around"; I wonder if decent tapes survive for an official release and perhaps more importantly, whether there's any other surviving Goldsmith material)

The Don Is Dead

Indict and Convict

Archer (one episode of TV series entitled "Shades of Blue")

Medical Story (unknown number of episodes)

The Hemingway Play (series title theme only?)

QB VII (original LP was a separate recording from the film recording, which is reportedly lost hence the complete Tadlow reconstruction -- but I hope the unreleased film recording turns up some day)

The Reincarnation of Peter Proud (while there is an unmentionable, Doug Fake said this in a post ten years ago, which I hope has changed: ""While poor cassette dubs and CDRs abound, true master elements for the majority of this score remain missing. Though a license can probably be negotiated for the album rights, the recording sessions were done here. So AFM fees also still apply, if the actual session masters can be located. There were separate orchestral sessions, piano sessions and electronic sessions. Where everything ended up is a mystery. We've found a small part of them but that's it so far. We'll keep our eyes peeled...")

MacArthur (I think the LP was a re-recording so that film recording is unreleased?)

The Lonely Guy (technically two cues were released on LP only)

Wall Street rejected score (was this recorded or did he just start writing it?)

Brotherhood of the Gun, aka Hollister (technically a Joel Goldsmith score with a Jerry Goldsmith theme)

H.E.L.P. (similar situation; Jerry only contributed a main title)

The Public Eye rejected score (Mike Ross-Trevor confirmed this was recorded, but no one else has ever chimed in about it so it's a mystery)

Babe rejected score (some records indicate this was recorded in Australia, but other authorities say no...so probably unlikely except as a new recording)

Additionally, since Prometheus's "Jerry Goldsmith: The Early Years" had a "Volume 1" in the title, presumably there is scattered surviving early TV work (and perhaps radio work?) of his still to be restored and officially released if another label takes up the baton, but perhaps a lack of elements was part of the reason we never saw a Volume 2.

You left out "The Twilight Zone" episode "Nightmare As A Child".

"Dusty" was a failed TV crime drama pilot directed by Don Medford (sometiems passed off as a TV movie). Jerry was doing pilots for years before and after that.

Often confused with a film by the same name from the same year directed by John Richardson
(and scored by Frank Strangio).

The problem with IMDb is people submitting credits to the incorrect sections; films and TV projects that track existign score go not in the Composer credits but rather Music Dept. credits and shoudl be labeled appropriately. This is also the fault of the IMDb staff who approve obviously false/incorrectly submitted data.

Ah, yes, here it is "http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0250354/combined". Did it air?

There's also radio dramas he did, as well as the children's audio book he scored (which he mentioned in a video interview; I don't recall if he named it).

Found it. Unfortunately he doesn't name it. It's about 6:02 in:

Rare Jerry Pilot?

THE UNDERGROUND MAN with Peter Graves

directed by Paul Wendkos who directed the Jerry scored FACE OF A FUGITIVE, THE BROTHERHOOD OF THE BELL and THE MEPHISTO WALTZ.

Sounds like Jerry's CHINATOWN jazzy style to be sure and lush and big with that ILLUSTRATED MAN like Lady Vocal:

Trawling through this great thread from eight years ago when Lukas was soliciting CBS suggestions for FSM to release...oh, what might have happened if FSM had stuck around for another few years! I fear a lot of this might be too obscure for LLL or Intrada to care about, but FSM would release the most obscure stuff on a regular basis (which is no doubt part of the reason they are no longer around, sadly):
http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?forumID=1&pageID=1&threadID=74044&archive=0

In any case, I thought I would point out a couple scores Mark Ford found still have tapes surviving in the CBS vaults:

"Found Playhouse 90 audio tapes of 2 episodes that were scored by Goldsmith. Not sure what they are since this was a live show and they could just be recordings of the live audio.

Box 1045, Item 1 Shape of the River
Physical Description: open reel audio tape
On container, "PH 90/Shape of the River/I."

Box 1045, Item 2 Dream of Treason
Physical Description: open reel audio tape
On container, "PH 90/#59-9-3/Dream of Treason/Good Takes."

I'll slightly correct what he wrote: Playhouse 90 was not always *live*, actually (I think the final season was largely filmed) and many of the scores performed live were later re-recorded for library music purposes, which is why we got two other scores (Tomorrow and A Marriage of Strangers) on that Prometheus Early Years disc.

It would be so awesome to get more of Jerry's P90 work -- these were basically feature scores -- A Marriage of Strangers turned out to be 35 minutes long(!):

Just for the record, ALL SIX of Jerry's scores for the Gunsmoke TV series DO survive in music-only form, and in fact thanks to FSM board member Ron Burbella, we have been able to premiere half of those on the latest Goldsmith Odyssey episode that just dropped:

https://www.buzzsprout.com/159614/853743-episode-14-gunsmoke-doc-judge-the-blacksmith-the-wake-1960

I really hope these can be given the TLC of a commercial CD release in the not-too-distant future.

Our first full (not an expansion or previously released on an unmentionable) Goldsmith premiere is AGES was just announced! Archer from LLL!

I have also removed The Reincarnation of Peter Proud and The Lonely Guy from the top list, thanks to Intrada's releases of these last year.

First post edited to remove Barnaby Jones, which LLL just released complete in their Quinn Martin Vol. 1 2 CD set, and also The Public Eye, since we've received word (a few months back, actually) that Carol Goldsmith found the DAT that Mike Ross-Trevor had sent her of the score, and a film music label is working on it...

Take Her, She's Mine (claimed to have unusable tapes in the notes to Varese's Goldsmith@Fox Box, but much more of scores like Von Ryan's Express and Shock Treatment were released later using superior restoration technology, so maybe the situation has changed?)

Chris Malone to the rescue, with modern tech! He painstakingly restored the wow-ridden original recording, released today by Intrada:
http://store.intrada.com/s.nl/it.A/id.12179/.f?sc=13&category=22848

The clips sound great! It seems that a bit of the score remained unsalvageable, but we still have gotten more ("nearly all") than we ever expected:
"There's only a handful of Goldsmith scores that have yet to be released in any form, and the music elements for this title were long thought damaged beyond use. But with advances in technology and the meticulous work of restoration expert Chris Malone, Intrada is able to present nearly all of Goldsmith's score in stereo. Malone had to restore the audio of each channel separately to get the wondrous results heard here. Rather than compromise the naturally wide instrumental spread, which was never intended for a stereo mix, Intrada also offers a mono presentation of the program as heard in the film."
