Someone give it to me straight: Is this score comparable to the original RoboCop score? Is it enjoyable as an extension of the first score? Is the creative progression on this one similar to the Conan the Barbarian-to-Conan the Destroyer progression?

I'd say the difference between Poledouris' music for ROBOCOP and ROBOCOP 3 is similar to the difference between Goldsmith's music for STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE and STAR TREK V.

It's a bit lighter and faster than the original, not as heavy and brooding. Poledouris adjusted his music to fit the tone of the third film.

You mentioned CONAN THE DESTROYER. At times that just felt like a stripped down version of the BARBARIAN score. ROBOCOP 3 doesn't feel that way.

Most of the original themes are reprised, and there are a handful of new themes - all quite good, especially the Resistance theme. Very good action cues, too.

Put simply, if you love the score to the first film, I think you'll enjoy this too.

Yes, yes, yes, YESYESYES! Thank you, Varèse Sarabande! I've loved this score since I was young enough to actually enjoy the movie. Now I'll have no reason to watch it again.

Thank you!

Original score was just over 28 minutes how much more score, what's the total time.

A quick count puts it somewhere from 67 to 70 minutes. I'll leave it to somebody else to do a more precise count.

Agreed with Sarge, especially about the theme for the Resistance. Definitely want to get this soon.

I don't recall the music from RoboCop 3 (I've only seen the movie once). If I can find some samples, I'd love to check them out.

But this description gives me some hope.

I'm starting to get interested...
But if I have neither one, which should I get?

Varese's shipping is in line with other retailers like the fine folks at Intrada and others. It's unfortunate, but this is something completely out of our hands and every other labels hands when it comes to increase shipping. S.A.E. will carry these.

I ordered this and Jagged Edge. Don't really care about Hellboy.

Conversely, I ordered this and Hellboy. Don't really care about Jagged Edge smile

Hopefully a Barry/Beltrami fan ingored Mr. Poledouris to make it complete.

The score is fine, but because the material from the first film was adjusted to fit the tone of this one, it left the primary RoboCop theme itself as a little too cheesy in its performances. The original is best for the theme itself, but the remainder of the score and the secondary themes (think of the "home" theme in the first film) are nicely rendered in this score.

Just go to Youtube and search for composer name and film title. Something usually comes up.

There's an entire score of Robocop 3 on there, which I quickly skimmed through before ordering this CD.

But of course I'm in, and hopefully Varese will continue this run of Poledouris material.
