I'm afraid to ask and be 'that guy '....but the dreaded Kirgo handled liner notes here, which means no tech notes, or specifics how this miracle came to be, right? .....just flowery, ridiculous prose that makes me physically ill, really, going on about 'marvelous gifts on display ' and other inane, unhelpful musings.

Forget it, it's FSM, always has to be some negativity, and while I'm waiting for my copy to land, I'm thinking how great it would be to read a decent essay. Maybe I'll be proven wrong??? Or it'll be the one flaw on what looks to be 5-star stuff....where the hell was Bond at on this title? ???

Do you think Planet of the Apes would be a better film if the ape from "Link" appeared in it?
I don't. But that's what this score made me think of... music that reminds me of the absolute and timeless brilliance of Goldsmith's Planet of the Apes (or the best moments of Capricorn One), supplemented at several points by rather corny, dated synth doodles that would sound much more at home in a score like "Link".
Otherwise, this is superb stuff. I'd say for 90% of the time, this is Goldsmith at his best. Outstanding sound too. Almost unbelievably good sound actually. But during the time the synths interfere and make a nuisance of themselves? Yucch. Having said that, the work that's been done to integrate the synths for this presentation seems seamless and should be very pleasing for those with more patience with synths than me.

You have this to look forward to in her Damnation Alley notes:
"Antoine de Saint Exupéry memorably wrote that 'What is essential is invisible to the eye'; Jerry Goldsmith understood that, by the same token, the essential, via great music, was available to any willing ear."

"Under guidance of Producer Nick Redman..." = Kirgo notes. Package deal.

She's missing her calling as a pragmatic poet. A stepping stone, perchance?

Oh lordy! LOL. In this one case I'll give her a pass (because the music is so damned good without explanation) but her writing is SO BAD and Jeff Bond would have been icing on the cake.

I hope Doug has written tech notes at least :-)

I haven't ordered this yet, but I will, as soon as I can string together another order.
I'm really looking forward to hearing it, but damn, that Kirgo news is disappointing.
What's the point of yammering on, with pretty prose, page after page, while telling us ABSOLUTELY NOTHING of interest or note about the production during that time.
    There goes the 5 stars.
But at least the music is gonna be top notch.

I have a short video which Leigh has put together re the adding of the synth part. It is an MP4 file and am having a problem figuring out how to upload it. Any advice please?

This album is just terrific. And the integration of the new synths is perfectly done. Listening to it made me thrilled, but also a bit sad that there are so few "new" Goldsmith scores yet to be discovered.

Yes, the liner notes appear to be a parody. But that didn't detract from my enjoyment of this wonderful release.

Just arrived today; will listen to it while at work tonight.
As far as the liner notes are concerned, they're fine - if people were expecting straight out tech talk, they could consult their Ouija Boards.

Great release, Intrada smile thanks, haven't watched the movie in yonks, late 80s, but do remember the score fairly well, Goldsmith had an art when-ever needed of piecing his previous scores to a project which come-across as neat/tidy, fresh. Sounds of a later Runway, POTA, Logan's Run, Twilights Last Gleaming. Jerry was at the summit in the 70s.

[Just had a message : Leigh will be putting it on his FB page and I will then be able to post the link. It might not be for a few days as he is ultra busy. The video lasts for 4 mins 49 secs. It's very clearly put together ... just a short section of the score showing (via wav forms) how it builds up to the finished article.
