I heard this one comes from Kamen's own master tapes...

... Previous ones didnt?

That would be a very odd omission. Unless Kamen was very secretive about where he stored his stuff, why wouldn't Kamen's own master tapes be the first place to look?

Because that's not what happened. Virtually everything on this was provided to us by Fox. One reel was provided late to us which was discovered by the Kamen estate and shared with us. It had two cues which were on the previous release and one short alternate. Everything else came from Fox.

This is getting more and more intriguing. I can't wait for the 13th!

I have been wanting to explore this score for some time. Love the film but the subpar sound quality on prior releases always made me hesitant. That and I remember reading a poor review on filmtracks some years ago that gave me additional second thoughts.

I dig Kamen's action writing though and the first DH has always been reliable entertainment. Will definitely be adding this one to the collection!

3 discs too!--that's a substantial release.

I'm hoping we'll get "Gun in Cheek" and "Fire Hose" in pristine sound.

Especially "Gun in Cheek", since music was tracked over it in the film

I'll throw my two centimeters into the ring:

The third disc will be a soundtrack album presentation that was assembled and prepared at the time the film came out but was never released. It'll be a nice single LP-length thing, 40-45 minutes of score, with some edits compared to the "complete" score release.

I'm cautiously excited. Hopefully, LLL wouldn't bother to put this out for a third time (and fourth overall, counting the Varèse release), with a large edition count and add a third disc to boot, without a very good reason. In an era when most soundtracks cannot sell more than 3000 copies over several years, Die Hard has managed to sell 5500 copies for LLL (and another 3000 for Varèse) including 2000 units since about April 2017, and now LLL are gambling that they will almost double their sales, which is fairly ambitious, even for such a film score as this one.

Filmtracks should never be relied upon for anything but casual reading and sometimes a laugh. There are numerous screwball reviews and some clearly demonstrate that Clemenson has a serious axe to grind.

It's a helluva score. I don't think LLL would bother if it weren't a significant improvement from the previous releases.

Fox must have appointed a new warehouse manager. First Alien 3 located, now this! Hopefully they also found better sources for The Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure.

Funny, I was just thinking that myself. I'll be thrilled if that is the case. I seem to remember Nic Redman had wanted to release a Predator / Die Hard twofer on 1 disc around the time he was involved in the short-lived Fox Records revival.

Maybe their are original cues Kamen wrote before they inserted the Aliens and Man on Fire temps. Always wished we would hear them one day if they were written.

Please point out these "screwball reviews". Mr Clemenson reviews contain information on how the albums are mixed and also the best presentation of a score. Frankly, he's one of the best reviewers out there.

Pretty sure we already got what was supposed to go where Al shoots Karl on the old Varese.

This is just for fun so here is my 'Worst Case Scenario'

- Discs 1 and 2 will be identical to La-La Land's previous release with a few unfortunate exceptions. No quality difference whatsoever.
- Disc 3 will feature 'some' of that music in their restored state, but only portions of it. Like the restored 'Gun In Cheek' track will only cover the last eight seconds of the original.
- The rest of Disc 3's content will be Varese's presentation of their soundtrack with no change in quality.
- Those exceptions I was talking about? Turns out this release will not feature 'We’ve Got Each Other', 'Let It Snow', and 'Beethoven’s 9th' tracks due to new and bogus licensing rights.

Anyway, that's just the worst case scenario. I have yet to see any of those kinds of predictions come to fruition when it comes to La-La Land's final products. Even if they don't include the ALIENS track, I'd still grab it in a heartbeat if the quality has been improved.
