What's missing from the 65 minute program that's important? To my memory, the additional cues are pretty much repeats of material already covered in other tracks.

What’s missing? A wealth of music...

When Mr. Marshall said:

Melvin!
Melvin!
Where are you?

He remembers years ago, when this topic came up, and I posted my several year search for cues. I obtained seven cd versions of West from collectors worldwide. From Sweden to South America. I spent three years working on placing correct cues in order. Finding unuseable cues, I discovered I could go directly to dvd (using ac3) extracting 5.1 setting.

You are correct Juhana, some additional cues do repeat material, but in different varations. Several cds I have, has cues played four or five times. The cues are more than likely sessions, with me having to check dvd to determine which one is correct.

As I bored people before with my attempts, out of the 45 cues in film, will give you just two days of my four year effort. With 48 cues, I have a books worth of notes on my detailed effort. Check out the two days below.

Tuesday, June 15th 2004, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m, with the 2 CDS and the DVD, I began the process. Worked up to chapter 11 on DVD.

Monday, February, 7, 2005. 3:53 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. off and on during these hours, I worked with the 2cd Spanish version of: Once Upon A Time In The West, I received from the Swedish source. The first title, a two cd set, is the one I mention in my: January 5, 04 statement. Interesting, a year later, I now receive this cd, via the Swedish source. Will refer to this version as the Spanish version. The first cd has 39 tracks. The second cd has 32 tracks. Right away, the opening track: The Station, is played twice. From the actual source and then you can tell by the sound quality, the official release is repeated. This version is replicating the earlier version I received from the Swedish source, but, there is a slight difference. 3. Jill Arrives in Flagstone on the Swedish version, the cue plays for 1:39, then segues into next cue. On this version (Spanish version), the cue plays for 1:47, then segues to next cue. Spent over 45 minutes checking cue for Jill’s arrival. Noticed, low audible hum at 26:30 on the dvd, playing until the harpsichord begins the Once Upon a Time theme. Checking the dvd and official cd reveals the audible hum plays 9 seconds before harpsichord begins (dvd: 26:30 to 26:39). This is explained when reading notes on the cue. On the version I am putting together: 8. ‘Pick it up’ ( :09) and 9. Harmonica Continues Playing U.S. ( :15). Peru version, ( :18). Whoever put together this Spanish version, reversed the order of these two sequences. They placed the :15 - :18 second cue before the :09 second cue. Again, people just don’t care. 10. Cheyenne Confronts Customer to Shoot off his Handcuffs. On Spanish version this is track 12. The First Tavern (Movie Version). Spanish version again repeats: 14. The Tavern (Album Version). This version is a mess, Jill arrives and discovers the McBains dead, happens after she leaves the Tavern. This version has that cue as 17. Inside the place with cues of Jill at McBains during the night. Long after she has arrived. I refuse to continue attempting to document this Spanish version. Cues are sorely missed placed, will just play the cds to determine if there is anything of value.

November 22, 2009. At last, finished working on cues for Once Upon A Time In The West. Noticed a few cues needing to be boosted and spent four hours doing so. Burned disc onto two cds. My version, I include sounds from dvd. Train, Wind, Natural sounds of nature on the dvd.. Finished project at 7:30 p.m.

So, is this the first time the session tapes have been used to master the album? If so, then this is a fine reason to upgrade. If not, well......

So, I am expecting the PENULTIMATE Release of my ALL-TIME Favorite Score!! This is tremendous and serendipitous as last evening I was thinking "is there anything that needs to be accomplished" for the score to be the absolute BEST version to ever be released. JOY! All-Time Favorite film as well.

If this is your all-time favorite score, one might assume that you would want the ultimate release, rather than settling for the penultimate release.

You beat me to it. So many people don't know "penultimate" just means "next-to-last".

Cheyenne’s intro cue was one of my favorite moments in the film, so that’s the cue I can’t believe has never been included.

They'd have my money again if they would just include that piece and the sedate orchestration if I recall as Frank rides toward the MacBain ranch passed the railway construction prior to "the point of dying"

An accurate remastering by Claudio Fuiano and Daniel Winkler corrected a few formal imprecisions of the wonderful previous editions as well as some minor stereophonic flaws, and now we can finally say we have an album that meets our expectations for such a milestone edition of this score.

What does this actually mean?

Does it mean than we are finally getting STEREO versions of Once Upon A Time In the West and A Man With A Harmonica?

Holy shite, Chris!
You are right about mono.
Never realized it!

Doubt it will be remixed on the new version, but if it is, that would be a definite upgrade!

I wish!

I think Mr Marshall is confused as the piece I mentioned is basically the second part of "As A Judgment" but it's purely strings and the trumpet doesn't come in until later as Frank nears Harmonica.

I first saw this film in 1969, loved the film and the soundtrack was just amazing, trouble was you couldn't buy one anywhere frown

My very first copy of Once Upon A Time In The West was a single by Cyril Stapelton orchestra and chorus;

http://www.45cat.com/record/7n17843.

It was the early seventies before I finally laid hands on the French LP followed quickly by the Italian LP (much improved sound) now I have the French original cd, the French expanded cd, the UK expanded cd, the RCA expanded cd (which is my favourite and the GDM (with seven inedits) cd and hopefully sometime in the not to distant future I'll have the new Beat expanded cd (with improved sound) which should be the best of the lot. As you can see I love this score, my ultimate cd would be all the film versions especially "Final Duel" the album version seems somewhat lacking (sigh!) but it's what we have.
