gil melle has hours of music in his archives, was there when it was done. this should be released, if you go to malibu check on denise melle, she is now living with basically a homeless alcoholic, gil is spinning in his grave lord rest his soul. we are concerned about her and believe his music should be released for all to hear.

Sad to say, but my inital reaction to reading this thread title was, "Why would they do an album about a washed-up wrestler/awful public speaker?"

Shaun

i just saw this thread and had the same reaction. I thought maybe someone wanted an endless loop of his theme song, or some kind of theme and variations...

Does anybody know if Melle had copies of his scores in his own archive such as Bone?

Yes. He told me in 2002 that he has copies of all of his scores.

Whoever you are should be ashamed of posting such trash and I am thinking of forwarding this to Mrs. Melle.

My research on THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR, originally titled THE BARONY includes obtaining publicity releases from the production company and Warner Bros., the shooting script, the novelization, several original movie posters, lobby cards, and black and white stills.

Miklos Rozsa was offered "Demon aka God Told Me To" and passed. He said, "God told me not to."

Lukas,

This was quoted in the original CINEFANTASTIQUE way back when it was run by Fred Clarke and Jeffrey Fretzen.

Now is the time to bring this post back for discussion considering Christopher Jenkins's article for the current issue of FSMO on the film music from William Smith Films. He mentioned at the end the still unreleased score which I consider in his top three after FRANKENSTEIN: THE TRUE STORY and THE SENTINEL (both Universal). THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR is Warner Bros. and could be a project for LALALAND or INTRADA.

It would be a dream if we could get THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR. I too consider it right up there with the very best of Gil Mellé's scores - it really is an astonishing work, bristling with imagination. Powerhouse stuff.

More Mellé, please!
I've never seen "The Ultimate Warrior", but it sounds like Gil was inspired to write a great action score, so count me in for a copy.

I do know that the composer's tapes are available along with the written score.

The score has a Kolchakesque appeal. Nice strings section all the way. Eclectic percus and dominant brass.

PS: Back in the 2000's, the release fitted the format of FSM but that didn't happen…

James, do you know if there are any complicated legal loopholes to negotiate? It would be a fantastic release but, of course, it would have to be financially attractive to the label...

Thomas, thanks for the YouTube link - very SENTINELesque strings, but the clips with the most dominant music seem to have disappeared. It's really chock-a-block with marvelous Melléisms throughout.

If you watch again the "Kolchak" episode "They Have Been, They Are, They Will Be…",
you'll notice this string effect.

"Kolchak" is a marvelous series to compile all the devices conceived by Mellé.

As a reminder, Intrada used to release a post-Apocalypse score back in 2012: "Ravagers".
So "The Ultimate Warrior" is feasible. Besides, they have a wild card: Lukas Kendall.

As far as negotiating the rights, I'm the wrong person to ask. Otherwise, I can discuss the genesis of the film's production, music, and instruments used in creating the unique soundscape.

Thomas - yes, I suppose if something as obscure as RAVAGERS got released, then THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR is in with a decent shout - if legal issues are not too complicated...

James, you may not be the right person to ask about those issues, but based on your CV you should be able to get hired as the writer of the liner notes.

Just idle speculation at the moment, I know. James dropped a hint on another thread about a possible FRANKENSTEIN: THE TRUE STORY... so, hopefully, we might be in for a few treats. But I'm not holding my breath. I know these things take time, and that good things come to all who wait - but so does death from old age.

Anyway, if there are indeed more Mellé scores in the pipeline, you know that I'll be supporting them 100%

I second your support. Anything labeled Mellé is purchased: same thing with Fielding.
WARRIOR is different from FRANKENSTEIN. One is semi-avant garde and the other is Romantic but in the Mellé fashion.

In the meantime sadly this will have to do.

You said it, Graham! I knew that FSM was planning a "Shaft" set and waited patiently for nearly 2 years. I hope someone is paying attention to these Mellé postings here.

ABC Pictures produced first two Night Stalker movies. Did they own Kolchak the series. If abc did, Disney owns Abc. Intrada has deal with Disney. Kolchak the Night Stalker Complete by Intrada?
