Great list,

You have to include also PSYCHO III (MCA - Carter Burwell)

Thanks. Don't know how I missed that one.

I notice that Footlights has a CD of APRIL LOVE backed with TAMMY AND THE BACHELOR. Is this a legit reissue? Thanks!

Amazon lists it with a March 11, 2008 release date, on Sepia Records. That's the outfit from England that late last year released Bernstein's "Drango," and "Trapeze/Greatest Show on Earth," reportedly from LP transfers. Amazon describes it as follows:

Product Description
April Love and Tammy and the Bachelor were two of the most popular movies of 1957, and both offered haunting scores that have never been on CD before. Now, these great soundtracks are available on one CD, with bonus tracks by the stars as well as the pop version of "April Love" and Debbie Reynolds' version of "Tammy"--both #1 hits in 1957!

Bob, thanks for the great list. I would like to add just one from my own collection that I didn't see up there. CHARADE '79 (US title: SOMEBODY KILLED HER HUSBAND) by Alex North. The album was released only in Japan. Thanks again.

This was released on the "Dynamation" label and is described in various sources as a "promotional" or "limited" release. I was trying to limit the list to commercial releases only.

EDIT: I later changed my mind and put it on the list.

I was excluding 10-inch LPs that weren't also reissued on 12-inch, but that's rather arbitrary, so, I've put it on the list.

Interesting find. Added under the U.S. title.

Don't forget Tiomkin's RETURN TO PARADISE.

Well, if we're going to start going down the 10-inch road, I'll add them as they are pointed out.

EDIT: I now see this was mentioned earlier above.

This is a great thread, Bob, and has been of much help to me. I was perusing my own collection and may have found some more titles to add. I only checked them against the listings at Soundtrack Collector and in Osborne's "The Official Price Guide..." so take them for what they're worth.

Candy (Dave Grusin)
Double Impact (Various -- TV theme rerecords)
George K. Arthur's Prize Package (Various -- 3 orig. tracks)
Golden Turkey Album, The (Various -- orig. tracks)
Green Ice (Bill Wyman)
Grounds For Marriage (Bronislau Kaper)
Hercules (RCA/Bluebird release)
Hitter, The (Garfeel Ruff)
Honky Tonk Freeway (Elmer Bernstein, George Martin)
Impact (Various -- TV theme rerecords)
Let No Man Write My Epitaph (George Duning)
Movie And TV Themes (Elmer Bernstein)
No Sun In Venice (John Lewis)
Paris Holiday (Joseph J. Lilley)
Prisoner of Zenda, The (Alfred Newman, cond. Leroy Holmes)
Torch Song (Adolph Deutsch)

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for a number of good pick ups. My comments are below.

Candy (Dave Grusin) – Don’t know how I missed this. Added.
Double Impact (Various -- TV theme rerecords) - I purposely excluded compilation albums, particularly when they are re-recordings, and I would rather not start putting them on the list. The number of LPs of re-recorded TV themes out there is staggering (although most of them are not as well done as “Double Impact.”)
George K. Arthur's Prize Package (Various -- 3 orig. tracks) – This is a odd one. A compilation of music from three shorts from the early 1950s: “The Stranger Left No Card,” “Martin and Gaston,” and “A Prince for Cynthia.”
Golden Turkey Album, The (Various -- orig. tracks) – Another compilation album, purportedly of 12 bad movie scores.
Green Ice (Bill Wyman) – A German LP release. Added.
Grounds For Marriage (Bronislau Kaper) – a 10-inch release. Added.
Hercules (RCA/Bluebird release) – I think for all intents and purposes, we can consider “Hercules” released via the Digitmovies 2-CD set of 2006, even though it doesn’t include the narration of the RCA release.
Hitter, The (Garfeel Ruff) – I should have caught this. Added.
Honky Tonk Freeway (Elmer Bernstein, George Martin) – Should have caught this one too. Added
Impact (Various -- TV theme rerecords) - Compilation
Let No Man Write My Epitaph (George Duning) – Another unexplainable omission. Added.
Movie And TV Themes (Elmer Bernstein) - Compilation
No Sun In Venice (John Lewis) – This one was actually already on the list.
Paris Holiday (Joseph J. Lilley) – Also on the list.
Prisoner of Zenda, The (Alfred Newman, cond. Leroy Holmes) – I suppose this should be on the list, since what we have on CD now is the Conrad Salinger 1952 adaptation of the 1937 Newman, rather than this Leroy Holmes 1975 adaptation of the 1937 Newman. The Salinger recording was, after all, for a completely separate film than the one that Holmes was trying to re-create. However, I won’t be adding the other Holmes recordings (like “Citizen Kane” or “King Kong”) since we do have CD versions of the scores from those specific films, even if we don’t have Holmes’ specific recording. Clear?
[EDIT: I later changed my mind on this and added all of the Leroy Holmes recordings.]
Torch Song (Adolph Deutsch) – Another 10-incher. Added.

YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN was released, but is out of print.

Thanks. It was a 1997 release on CD. Deleted from list.

Don't worry about having left anything off the list. Going through a book listing various titles can make one go blind. It's mind numbing. I've taken all parts of this list and compiled them in one file, printed it out, and highlighted everything that I have. I overlooked a couple myself.

By the way, there is nothing of Bernstein's on HONKY TONK FREEWAY. I picked this up on eBay about 9-10 years back and was greatly disappointed
to make that discovery. (Almost as much as when I
finally got MAKING OF THE PRESIDENT 1960, only to find that UA was too cheap to pay for the album rights to Elmer's Emmy-winning score, and replaced it with library cuts--sheesh!)

Is there anything from George Martin on the "Honky Tonk Freeway" disc? I'll adjust the listing to indicate pop songs only.

Gas-s-s-s (Robert Corff, various pop)
Gypsy Girl (Milton DeLugg)
His Wife’s Habit (Jim Helms)
History of the World Part 1 (John Morris, dialogue)
Learning Tree, The (Gordon Parks)
Man in the Wilderness (Johnny Harris)

Can anyone say with certainty whether the LP releases on the Sepia label are authorized/legal or not? So far, they have released:
Drango
Trapeze / The Greatest Show on Earth
April Love / Tammy and the Bachelor

How about EL/Cherry Red Records, who have released "Sweet Smell of Success?"

We should be consistent regarding which labels we do and do not recognize as constituting a release of an LP. For example, the lists in this thread are not counting Harkit or Tsunami as being official CD releases.
