the book and the box are basicly free. puts it in a little perspective. eather way its a Outstanding Set!! Sorry, but I don't really understand that comment.. On my side an "outstanding box set" would have been one WITHOUT this book problem! I paid lots of money to it and I think I deserve a mint product. For me the book itself is as important as the rest of the box and should be part of the it as a "product for itself". Good for you if you can manage to make out a new book out of it. On my side I'm happy with the CDs and the look of it all, but still really dissapointed to have put so much money in a boxset with a book that falls appart. I can't really understand why calling this an "outstanding boxset" if the book is broken down every two pages. I'm sad... especially as mine is SIGNED. Lukas, do you also replace signed booklets or should I just send my boxset back to you? (see how sad I am...)

i doubt they are allowed to do that without paying the people who wrote the book, warner brothers, and whoever else....as gorilla monsooon used to say "highly unlikely"

We have been discussing doing PDFs of liner notes already but there is a lot involved as far as rights, bandwidth, formatting, etc. It would be best not to expect anything soon. Thanks. Lukas

Whoa fellas. If anyone has any doubts, about the durability of our product, allow me to clarify: The book is "smythe sewn", a traditional hardcover book binding, not glued. It is standard practice for signatures of 16 or 32 pages to be printed together and then stitched together with real silk thread. This is a real book, built to last. The looseness is normal. The book needs space between the sewn signatures and the book spine for flexibility. If the pages were attached to the spine, the spine would crack. If it seems like a lot of space, relatively, remember it's just the scale of our tome. You don't often see 160 pages in hardcover, smaller than a paperback! Art Director Joe PS---Don't ask that Lukas guy, he produces great records, but he ain't no bookbinder. ;-)

Yep, thanx Joe! So, I guess, mine won't fall appart, then. But it really looks like super fragile! Hope it will stay complete. Thanx again for clarification

Art Director Joe Sorry, Joe, but I've been reading and collecting books (of all sizes) for decades, and this one is anything but durable. You can see the signatures pulling away at the top of the book when it's opened, but not at the bottom. From the problems so many other people are describing, I'd say you have a beef with your manufacturer. This is a real shame, considering the excellent effort that went into the contents.

"The book is SMYTHE SEWN, I tell you. This is a real book, built to last. The looseness is normal." It happened to me yesterday, after the kid-gloves-treatment and all. I was turning the pages by their edges, careful not to get fingerprints on them, when I heard a tiny little "snap." I flipped back a few sections and saw some REAL SILK THREADS sticking out, and one of those "signatures" slid out into my lap. So, obviously, I'll write and request a new book, and never open it, but has anyone come up with an idea for what to do with a damaged/defective one? I counted ten "signatures" in all. The front and back signatures are glued to the cover, so they're not going anywhere. I guess if I removed the other eight signatures and put a staple through the center/spine of each, it would be like having eight loose CD booklets of equal length in a nifty little blue folder. Other suggestions?

Yeah, the signatures on my book have now separated from the adhesive material on the top and the bottom of the book, so it's just a matter of time before they start falling out. I hope that Joe's failure to respond again in this thread means that he and Lukas are currently trying to figure out a plan of action. I'm sure that they paid for the very best binding available, but they didn't get what they paid for.
