Grabbed this more for nostalgia of the movie than actually remembering anything from the score. _______________________________________________
Same here. I love Rubinstein's score to BLUE THUNDER but it's been decades since I saw WARGAMES. I remember loving it the ten-billion times I saw it on HBO in the mid-80s, though.
Great movie from the days when a movie could be tense and exciting despite no violence and no one getting killed (I owe Lawrence Lasker and Walter F. Parkes a round of drinks for this, Sneakers and Project X - I even bought the novelisation, and I was so relieved the movie didn't have the book's ending*), great music (I've got the Polydor album on tape which makes it a bitch to avoid the dialogue) - I'm definitely getting this! Does the Intrada CD include the songs which aren't in the movie as well?
*The novel ends with David giving up computers for a while ("Lent, you see") and going off to an aerobics class with Jennifer. While whistling Olivia Newton-John's "Physical." I hope that was an addition by the author and not part of the script!
Could we please oh PLEASE have mr. Rubinstein's phenomenal music for "Bring 'em back alive"? Pleeeeease! I have been waiting for almost a quarter of a century now.
I have the Rubenstein collection 2 CD set and some of my favorite cues from Wargames is on there. But I always wanted the harmonica theme at the end, so I'm grabbing this up.
I also have that 2 disc Rubinstein promo- and the sound quality is very dissapointing... I wish I knew of this before I ordered it- would have saved $30 bucks. Wonder why they couldn't have cleaned up the hiss on it? Anyways, sorry to digress- I ordered Wargames and can't wait! Blue Thunder is also a guilty pleasure- but AGAIN I wish the Theme at the end of that disc soundded better- there is hiss like taken from a tape source under that track. The rest of the disc seems to sound fine... and I wish it was the film version of that track... John F
p.s. maybe I should have started a different thread topic, sorry!
As with many others here, this film is one of those that belong to my childhood nostalgia. I remember taping it from TV and watching the taped VHS several times.
I can't remember anything of the music, but the samples are pretty nice. Not "have to get it"-nice, but....nice.

Actually...it was taken from an analog tape source (mine). That track was pretty impossible to find at the time (this was before the net exploded like it has today and it would have taken forever to locate a better copy...if one could be found at all) ...so rather than not have it available at all...my 15 year old cassette was 'baked' & used. I'm happy to have it in it's analog glory than not have it at all. You know, before the digital age we HAD to live with hiss. Spoiled younger generations. In fact, the film version may be better...but this music IMO is used in the best scene in the film when the train rolls over Blue Thunder. I love this music as the credits roll and I'm glad to have it, imperfect or otherwise.
I received WARGAMES yesterday, and have listened to it three times already. I was pleasantly surprised with all of the electro-synthy pop music tracks (most of which had vocals), which I wasn't expecting, since all of the samples at Intrada were orchestral, military flavored action music. This is an outstanding and entertaining score from beginning to end, and a most welcome addition to my collection. As Doug would say, "Bullseye!"
