I just want to point out that this release is EVERYTHING that has survived and neither Mr Frontiere or MGM have any more music. This was a two year effort and we made sure to include everything that existed (and what was in "useable" shape).

You imply that there are damaged "Outer Limits" materials in the vault that you cannot save?
Can you confirm, please?

I'd love to know if there are any other surviving OL scores. Earlier, someone mentioned The Guests which has a beautiful Northesque love theme.

The Zanti Misfits is another terrific score. Also there are other smaller, isolated cues from various episodes like the almost bluesy suspense piece from OBIT where Harry Townes is being questioned by the investigator in a dingy hotel room. There's a whirling guitar and vibes preamble to it that's also exceptionally cool. Anyone know what the hell I'm talking about? big grin

Anyway, the new album features some fantastic music. I'm a huge fan of The Mice. It's similar to Nightmare but actually weirder! Weird is good! Some terrific electric violin mysterioso writing in there.

Hey, between Nightmare and The Mice, you could actually programme the complete score to Incubus if you wanted to.

Ahhh... Incubus. The strangest Shatner-Emotes-Esperanto film ever made.

Heath,

To make it clear, the romantic cue from "The Guest" you mentioned is a stock cue from the rodeo series "Stoney Burke", produced by Leslie Stevens in 1962.
Actually, "The Outer Limits" recycles many cues from that rodeo series: for instance, the martial and threatening beat from "The Zanti Misfits".
"OBIT" is also filled with "Stoney Burke" cues.

PS: I advise all Dominic Frontiere fans to vote for "Stoney Burke on DVD if you want to witness one of the most beautiful and sensitive music ever wrote for the 1960's television at

But. . .It still doesn't have the music from the greatest "love theme" from the series--"The Guests." I've waited years for this . . .And it's not . . . (sob, sob, sob).

FYI, according to THE OUTER LIMITS COMPANION by David J. Schow has a very detailed section about the scoring of the show and this episode was not one of the episode that had original music written for it.

It was tracked from music from other episodes and it's very possible that the music in question was written for some other program and reused in this episode.

Oh, does the score for Nightmare have the music without sound effects and Martin Sheen's screaming?

No.

We only used the music tracks and didn't pull anything from the Music and Effects tracks for this release.

NO, this 3 CD SET contains everything that Mr. Frontiere had in his archive.

MGM had NOTHING in their archives of the scores from this series.

Ahhaa...! Cheers. I must say it doesn't sound like the kind of music I would expect from a rodeo series! Must have been a very interesting show.

Sounds like a pretty definitive album then. We must be grateful to Mr. Frontiere for preserving the material. Not all composers actually do that. Fans would be surprised.

Heath,

"Stoney Burke" is "The Outer Limits" without the monsters.
"Stoney Burke", "The Outer Limits": same thing...

And then...it's Warner Bros. all the way, baby!

I hope by Warner Brothers you mean Frank Comstock's album "Project Comstock: Music from Outer Space," easily on par with the greatest sci fi soundtracks.

So I assume this set covers every episode that Frontiere did original music for?

Here's a free tip for those trivia buffs who don't already know:

If you run Windows you'll very likely have a font on your system called Franklin Gothic Demi. Well, that's the font used for the original Outer Limits titles. Try it with a fairly big size, centered white letters on a black background. Bingo.

I'm pretty sure Saul Bass used it on Psycho too. Nice font. I use it all the time.

And who said this thread was dyi......

If this release were missing half of the music that's on it, it would still be most welcome in my music library. I mean, Good Lord -- this release has over THREE HOURS of "Outer Limits" music on it. Was anyone actually expecting anything this amazing the next time "OL" music was released? I would guess not.

It's okay to not have everything you want. Life goes on just the same. It's also good to have things you're still anticipating some day. Gives you another reason to continue on. Just my opinion.
