I was always under the impression that the album for JAWS 3D is a rerecording. I haven't seen the film in so many years, so I might be wrong.

I want Jaws: The Revenge to be pressed onto an official CD. And preferably one longer than the promo's 27 minutes. Small's music is incredible. I think it's almost as good as the first two scores (just as music; nothing can top the first score's effectiveness in the film), and a step ahead of Parker's (still good) Jaws 3-D. Yavar

Just wanted to throw my hat into this. The original JAWS has to sound better than the one we were sold in 2000.

I haven't seen Jaws 3 in awhile. Are you saying that tracks on the Intrada CD (and original MCA album) were not the same as heard in the film? Having thought about it, I think the issue is that some scenes were recut and rescored before release, so some cues on the album are from the original version and not the final theatrical release. But the majority of the music IS heard in the film. Thats correct. In the linner notes of the CD Alan Parker reveals that aprox. 35 minutes of the film had to be rescored before release. Other evidence that confirms this is the "workprint" scene of Overman's death (available at youtube), an earlier edit of the scene that matches perfectly with the album track (scored in the workprint version with music from JAWS 2 missing from JAWS 2 soundtrack album). The final film edit is completely different. The music in the film have a lot of differences with the album (original) versions. And there are a lot of great music missing from the album. I'd love a JAWS "great white box-set", but if separate releases do happen my priorities would be, in order: 1) JAWS THE REVENGE - great score. Have the promo but it was taken from a composer's tape of what was possibly an album program (anounced at the teaser poster but that never happened at the time) and contains a lot of hiss. A complete release of the score from a better source would be great. 2) JAWS 2 - not much missing from the original album, but some great moments such as the before mentioned scene of Brody finding a corpse and the portion missing from "The Big Jolt" 3) JAWS 3-D - The album is great, but the film (rescored) versions would be fantastic (and there's a lot of music missing from the album). 4) JAWS - with 3 relases (aniversary edition, rerecording and the original album) I'd not consider this one the priority, although both the film score and the album are in need of improved sound quality! N.: I was happy to see at Intrada that JAWS 3-D has sold out, even if it took a while. As a 3000 units release I had doubts about the success of that release. It shows that there's market for JAWS music when the (arguably) weaker score of the bunch sells out 3000 copies.

Not to mention it would be nice to have the film tracks of Jaws 3D released (to compliment the album version that just sold out). More Jaws, please. Michael, I haven't seen Jaws 3 in awhile. Are you saying that tracks on the Intrada CD (and original MCA album) were not the same as heard in the film? Oh no way pal. There were SOME cues that are heard in the film as they are on the album, but there are a few tracks (Mike and Kay's Love Theme, Overman's Last Dive, etc) that were completely rescored.

Yes, the Big Jolt Portion, The scene with the dead body in the ocean, and the cue when Jackie watches Mike go back to shore, those are most welcome, plus any other alternate or unused cues would also be welcome! As far as Jaws 2 is concerned. Jaws 3-D is TERRIFIC music. I love it to death! But I agree that there is a lot of great music that is not on the album, and many alternate film versions that should be released as well. As for Jaws: The Revenge. I think Michael Small is one of the best, but it's personally hard for me to enjoy even the music because I detest the film so much. It's one of the worst films ever made and the rediculousness ruins almost it for me. Fortunately, I DO have the Promo CD that was released and I do listen to it from time to time. I am SO ALL OVER a "Great White Box Set" like nobody's business!

It's only a mere few seconds, but I love the brief cue in JAWS 2 when the shark first appears off the shores of Amity at dusk. Chilling stuff. Aw, man I completely forgot about that cue! You're absolutely right-- extremely creepy and should be on a future release. Just listened to the Jaws4 main titles-- so kick-ass and my absolute favorite rendition of the theme. One great cue that's missing from the promo is the scene where Ellen identifies Sean's body... Michael OK, here is a complete list of the missing cues from JAWS 2: - The music for the scene in which the shark fin appears approaching Amity (a slow version of the shark theme); - The music for the scene in which Brody looks at the sea after seeing the dead whale (short piece) - The music for the scene in which Brody enters in the water to investigate a piece of wood (this is a very good suspensful cue); - The music for the scene in which the shark photo is revealed (short piece); - The music for the scene after the "Mike's Rescue" when they start to tie the boats togheter after the shark attack and a boat leaves the group to take the injured Mike to land (short piece); - The music for the scene in which the shark attacks Brody's boat (shark theme, almost inaudible - mixed very low in the film) - A section around 1:30 minutes of THE BIG JOLT! was edited out at album; On the TV version that was a scene with divers finding the camera from the first victims, which was scored with a reprise of the main title but with a dramatic section for the part on which they find the camera. The main title (film version) has an alternate middle section (but I prefer the album vesion, which is more varied) Missing music from JAWS 3-D: - the pulsing, ominous music, for the death of baby shark (also partially used for the Universal Logo) - the suspense music for the scene after the main titles when the skiers fall in the water and the shark approaches (also used for the scene in which the shark enters at the Sea World trough the sea gate and at the scene in which Bess Armstrong and Dennis Quaid sees the body of Overman). - the music for the scene in which Dennis Quaid goes to see Bess Armstrong ridding the whale - the source music on the speakers of the sea world (which is Parker's sea world theme) - the film version of the love theme - the music for the scene in which Bess Armsrong is training the dolphins and Philip Fitzroyce appears - the film version of underwater kingdom - the film version of Sea World opening day - the introduction of the shark theme as momma shark first appears - the attack on the skiers - the attack on Lea Thompson - the film version of Philip's Demise - the shark theme for the breaking glass scene and several other short pieces Most renditions of the shark theme for the shark attack scenes are missing from the album - I particuraly miss the shark theme moment at "Shark Chase and Dolphin Rescue" and the "triumphant version" at the end of "Philip's Demise" on the film versions score) And, missing music from JAWS The Revenge: -Attack on Sean - Ellen recognises Sean's body - Thea hanging at the pier - Ellen's premonition while building sandcastle with Thea - "We have a big Fish down here" - "Dont tell my mother about it" - Michael and Carla love scene - Michael's nightmare - Thea mimics Michael (copy of the Brody Sean scene from JAWS) - Prelude to the submarine chase - Michael's insomnia after the submarine chase - Ellen's flashbacks at the finale; final showdown

The thought of a Jaws Box set is absolutely intoxicating. It could give the Blue Box a run for its money. (If only there were a Jaws animated series ) A friendly Great White travels from reef to reef, ridding the aquatic inhabitants of those pesky people.

You are right about them, and indeed those are all GREAT cues that could and should inhabit a CD release. Plus as you mentioned, the film version of the main title, which I will admit I always preferred. I also love the cue when Brody looks to the ocean after finding the whale, and the small cue which the shark first appears as well. I am also sure there are some unused cues around somewhere. I am partiularly interested to hear this cue that you speak of which compliments the deleted scene of the divers finding the camera at the bottom of the ocean.
