It's hard to believe that this title still hasn't sold out, at 1000 copies, one week later!! I guess there's not as much of a clamour for high-quality orchestral scores as I thought
Kinda interested in this but holding out to see what else comes along in the next few weeks.
Well, nuts. I had already cancelled my order, in order to get the La-La Land titles.
I have more than enough money now that I could go and re-purchase this, but I'd personally like to wait it out and see what Quartet and Intrada have up their sleeves.
Incidently, this is only $20 at Moviemusic.com, which means with their $1, it's actually cheaper to order from there if you only want the one out of the VCL releases...
I was putting off ordering this until I noticed that it says fewer than 100 copies remain on the Varese Sarabande website. Glad I finally decided to get it; I sure do love my Pino!!
I just got my copy of this today, and I must say after listening to it all the way through, the score has really grown on me. I used to have MP3s of the few tracks on the old Symphonic Suites CD, and while I think those sound ever so slightly better, the score is far more effective in its entirety. So glad I got me a copy of this!
Pino Donaggio... the Italian Herrmann. Not quite and yet so much more.
Donaggio was given a great opportunity to score Carrie when Herrmann regrettably passed away in 1975.
He took the plunge and wrote a fine, scary and very sensitive score. For all his talent, I doubt Herrmann could have entered the mind of the troubled main character the way Donaggio did.
It is surprising and sad that Donaggio is not an A-list composer in Hollywood.

But he still one of the great ones.
Cheers!
NP L'Enfer d'Henri-Georges Clouzot (Music by Bruno Alexiu)
Agreed!! I also must add that Kristina's theme from Home Movies is one of the most beautiful I've ever heard. It's an underrated score for sure.
After recovering from the complete CARRIE score, I popped this CD in next. HOLY COW PART 2!!! Another forgotten classic by the Italian Maestro! I already had the LP and a CR-r copy, but this is how it should be. I love the liner notes by Temchin. Perfect, as is the music. I'd forgotten how insane the track Caught In The Act was. The best version of the Main Theme - almost in Hercules mode - then some similar parody music of the BLOW OUT co-ed motif, onto some crazy Saturday Night Fever-style disco/orch shenanigans, back to main theme and a bonkers, bad edit drum finish! And what a Love Theme. They just don't write em like that anymore. This - and CARRIE - will keep me quiet for ages And to think there's some Williams and Poledouris still in the bag!
