Clips recall one of Desplat's finest scores, DE BATTRE MON COUER S'EST ARRETE. What's that title in Not Spanish? In Not Spanish? It's: DE BATTRE MON COUER S'EST ARRETE (couldn't resist) Translated into English from French... it's: THE BEAT THAT MY HEART SKIPPED

Surely someone has gotten this through the European iTunes? Any reactions?

Desplat can be a bit formal and poised for people. It doesn't always give a rush of emotion. Every now and then there's an 'Upside of Anger', which is full of emotional release, but mostly his thing is a bit more restrained. That doesn't make it better or worse than a lot of other film music for me, but I do seem to get most of my kicks in film music these days from Desplat scores.

I just don't 'get' Desplat, at least not yet. The scores of his I've bought because of the hype about him haven't really grabbed me except for GHOST WRITER. I was disappointed to see upthread that James Newton Howard was attached (or almost attached?) to this, as he's my favorite current composer. I am listening to the sound samples of this and they're very interesting and MUSICAL, something lacking in so many of the current favorite composers, who seem to use instruments as makers of sound effects. Not bad, but not grabbing me in the way Desplat seems to grab most folks. I bet I'll like this with the movie, though. Desplat suffers, for me, from what I call the Morricone syndrome. Anyone who followed my Morricone series may get a sense, even though Morricone has written quite a few impressive scores for American films, the greatest and most creative ones were done in his native Italy. So as impressed as I am with some of Desplat's American scores, the ones for his native France are the ones that mainly blew me away and made me believe this guy is a great composer.
