This is an absolute masterpiece action suspense score from the late 80s. Can't believe this one has finally seen release, and with an amazing presentation!! Awwweesome! Thanks intrada team. ORDERED!!
My favorite John Scott score. Beautiful melody....haunting strings....not as intense as the samples make it out...and better for it! ORDERED (when I get paid on Wednesday).
I have an old sampler called "SCREEN THEMES". Tracks from the late 80's from Beetlejuice, DA, Cocoon-The Return, etc. are conducted by John Scott. The re-recordings are wonderfully interpreted. And one of the Highlights for me always was the End Title from Shoot to Kill. That's my only connection to this score. And now there's this wonderful release.
I've listened to the samples and this one's going on my ever-growing To Buy list.
Incidentally, there's also a 6:32 re-recorded suite on one of the early City Of Prague Silva compilations (CLIFFHANGERS: ACTION AND ADVENTURE IN THE MOVIES - a cut down of tracks from the Best Of Adventure 2-disc set from 1994).
I also have that SCREEN THEMES compilation from Varese and about half the tracks are from the original soundtracks and not re-recordings. (Curiously the tracklisting suggests Bernstein's DA as a World Premiere Recording although didn't Varese have the soundtrack released at this point, doubled with MY LEFT FOOT?)
I have nostalgic memories of this film. I remember taping it off of night-time tv here in Norway in the early 90's, and watching it over and over again. Great thriller, part urban, part outdoors in the scenery.
Can't remember the music, though, but Scott is usually reliable.

You're right, lots of tracks are the original recordings. Apparently the SHOOT TO KILL track on the SCREEN THEMES sampler is also a "World Premiere Recording". So I suppose it's a re-recording and the original recording is featured on the new Intrada disc.
I do not understand the love for this score. To me, it has all the problems of all Scott scores. The action music is more akin to 50s monster music. And he uses the worst instrument of all - the saxophone - as a leading figure in his compositions. I have described Scott's action music as pedestrian before but maybe mickeymousing pseudorosenmanesque nonsense is the best. No offense to the mighty folks at Intrada but this is no holy grail, more just like amateur hour.

The only thing amateur I see is your low-brow mediocrity, sir.
If you're going to insult someone, have the gall *not* to say "No offense". But you can't even be honest!
I think he meant no offense as in to the composer or the label. These are his opinions and I tend to agree as I am not a fan of John Scott's work [ mostly due to the fact that I can't think of any score I won/love that uses a Saxophone in a way I adore].
That being said, great news for fans of this score. A complete 65 minutes + 11 more of extras.
