I wonder why Varese couldn't include the original album (which they'd previously released) in their Deluxe Edition...or if only a few of the tracks were unique to the album, why they weren't included. Would've been cool to have them available and remastered. Oh well -- at least they're out there!

Thanks to everyone who responded to my questions. I received The FSM version of THE EGYPTIAN in yesterday's Post and found it to be an amazing listening experience. I really loved the combination of music by Alfred Newman and Bernard Hermann - who'd have thought the music styles would have meshed? I realize I'm coming aboard The Egyptian bandwagon very late, but, there it is. Also, I only have a bookshelf set of speakers with a Sony bookshelf cd player so I'm not playing this on huge speakers to hear any differences. Finances prohibit me from purchasing a second copy of this score from any other provider, and yes, I did find a couple out there. Some day when and if it becomes available at Netflix (don't get me started with them!), I'll see the film in widescreen and stereo and probably realize what all the fuss was about the missing 30 minutes of score from The FSM release. But that's a long way off, and I'm very content with this release. By the way, it's ONLY $4.95 at SAE if you didn't know.
This is going to sound absurd to some, but what I found was the inside cover of the FSM release was absolutely gorgeous in a 1950's sort of 'over the top' way. I switched the inside cover to the outside. Anyone have a photo of this inside cover they can post here or did everyone toss their old FSM copy of this score when Varese issued the 'deluxe' version?

Some day when and if it becomes available at Netflix (don't get me started with them!), I'll see the film in widescreen and stereo...
Check your local library, Monty-Dave. They might just have the dvd in their collection, or can maybe borrow it from another library for you.
And if I were an aging, evil queen I would at this point rub your nose in the fact that I can say that I saw it in a theater, with what was probably a primo print since it was the LA County Museum.
But I'm so old that all I can remember is the "drowning scene" so I'd end up looking foolish if I did so.....

I don't think it's currently available for rental (except from SAE) so Netflix doesn't have it even listed. But, you've got me curious now. A drowning scene? I know people can drown everywhere, but in the desert? Now I've gotta see this thing - better not be in quicksand!
