Superman Returns is a fine score and my favorite of Ottman's work; he really matured during this project. He adapts the William's themes as well as Thorne and Courage and creates his own that work beautifully. I always loved his love theme and like his "villain" theme more than "March of the Super Villains" (which was always a little to light and fluffy to me). A legit expansion would be great, but the original album is still an excellent representation of the score.

Wish I could find the old Kaplan Bros. podcast about this score. They perfectly captured practically all my reservations about what Ottman did, illustrated thoroughly with audio examples. I particularly enjoyed their demonstration of how Ottman's reharmonization of Williams' love theme turned it into something much closer to "Louie, Louie" than anything Williams himself would ever have written. What happened to it?

I'd take issue with the comment that new film's score being 'universally condemned'. More accurate to say condemned by a few gobshites who think they know better than anyone else, and like to shout loudly about it. So, if someone likes something, they're okay, but if they don't they're a gobshite who thinks they know better than anyone else? I take it there's nothing you don't like then?

Of course there is, but I don't feel the need to stand on my soapbox and try and drown out everyone else's opinion on it-different strokes for different folks-I've said that in fact I didn't like all of Zimmer's score on another post. My problem is with the unpleasantness of some of the comments, particularly by someone who has gone from being the forum's clown to quite frankly, it's biggest irritant, and his personal attacks on someone he doesn't know. And no, I didn't express myself very elegantly, but sometimes you just have to call em like you see em!

I assume he's referring to the reviews of said score on relevant websites by esteemed writers on film music. All of whom gave it 1 star.[/endquote) I refer you to my comments above. I do not care to read so-called critic's reviews so I can say "SEE-Barney McFarney of the little town news didn't like it-so my opinion is justified and I can be as unpleasant as I want about the film, the score, the composer, the director, his wife and kids and their dog!' I like what I like-if you don't fair enough but there's no need to be damn unpleasant about it-the internet is a great place for fomenting bile about such trivial issues. And as you are obviously taking issue with what I said, include yourself in and feel insulted if you want to-I really don't care. I have no wish to further derail this thread-so back to you Amer. Bring on Superman Returns in double disc goodness!
