I would bet good money another release of Ghostbusters and a debut release of Ghostbusters 2 happening this year to coincide with their respective anniversaries

MV

Do Sony actually give that much of a crap about the scores that the idea of releasing them again is actually on their radar?

Or do you know something we don't?

A debut release of ghostbusters 2 would indicate one for the score as that has never been released! Way to go La-la, me wants!

I would absolutely love to see Ghostbusters get a re-release. The Varese album is so rare that only a few have even been sold on ebay this year and for $200-$300. I also would hope a re-release would include the missing music heard when Gozer appears and Dana's apartment explodes as well as the proper film mix of the cue when the guys charge Gozer, which had the drum percussion overlays. A new remaster of the score would also be icing on the 30th birthday cake!!

As for GB2, I thought there was a rumor that the tapes or sources were lost. But that is a score I would really love to see the light of day. While it's definitely a lot different sounding from Bernstein's phenomal material for the original; it still is a pretty good score with quite a few great cues and interesting themes.

Ghostbusters really deserves to have another release as it is just way too big of a movie to only have 3000 (or however many Varese pressed) copies made. As far as 80's movies go, or comedies; both are at the top of my personal favorites list.

But we all know ... well we've been told many times ... that GB2 was lost!

I have the Varese release of GB1, but I'd happily get a new GB1 & the debut of GB2; along with the Blu-Ray double pack that's coming out later in the year. My GB is currently just on DVD.

Well, a debut of Ghostbusters 2 would be a most welcome album… but the first film's score could do with a bit less dynamic compression as well. Some of the louder moments just seem to mush together on the Varése disc.

Does that mean the masters have been found for the sequel? In late 2011, you mentioned in another thread they could not be found.

Anyway, I hope this is all true. And I hope it's not Varese, so we can get better sound. And detroy that crossfade they made in the finale.

Hey if there's NOTHING missing from Ghostbusters' score then I'm down and will buy it! I'd also check out Ghostbusters 2 and hope both will have remastered sound quality.

This is nitpicky, but if there has not been a mastered score release of GHOSTBUSTERS 2 before… how can it be "remastered"? According to Dictionary.com, "re-" is...

a prefix, occurring originally in loanwords from Latin, used with the meaning “again” or “again and again” to indicate repetition, or with the meaning “back” or “backward” to indicate withdrawal or backward motion: regenerate; refurbish; retype; retrace; revert.

Given MV's impeccable track record with disclosing only true information, I trust it. Looking forward! :-)

It is still a re-master because they are going back to the source tapes and redoing the audio, which is essential re-mastering it. The only way it would not be considered a "re-master" would be if they straight up cloned the master sources and just gave us that with no actual changes made.

No, I think that if there is a GHOSTBUSTERS II album in the near future, they'll be "mastering" it for the first time. The raw files would be "unmastered."

Now hang on, you said the Ghostbusters 2 masters were lost...So I'm going to assume you found out other wise or somebody else found it. Which means I better save up my money. Thanks MV!

Perhaps given there will be new Ghostbusters I & II Blu-ray releases in a couple of months either the masters were found or they had another usable source to work with?

Given MVs impeccable track record with truthful information at the time its given, it appears that the only info he had in 2011 was that the masters were lost and the updated info suggests now that they were found.

Think of the many examples of this (Conan, Alien, On the Waterfront)

MV never teases or misleads. Again, given his impeccable track record, he wouldnt publicly state that G1 & 2 were forthcoming if they werent and it will come as no surprise if they announce it as a LLL title later this year. Would make a cool 3CD combo pack.

Go with the ones who are concistentely earnest! Thats why we all love the tripple L!

Anniversaries? According to IMDB, Ghostbusters was released in theaters on June 8th. Ghostbusters II was released on June 16th. So that would mean . . . soon?

Either way, they will be mine. Oh yes, they will be mine.

I guess so. I really don't care what they call it, mastered or re-mastered. Complete or Expanded. I am just happy Ghostbusters II is finally coming out!!! And happy that Ghostbusters is getting another release, possibly with improved remastering and more complete this time as well.

Keep in mind a new Ghostbusters movie will be coming out. I can see it all coinciding with that.

They've been trying to get a third movie off the ground for almost 10 years now with zero luck. Bill Murray, after being talked into coming back, dropped out a few years back. And then Reitman threatened to not allow it to happen unless he directed it (which I did agree with). He actually had a clause in his original contract that if any sequels were ever made, the studio had to ask him first for directing. But with the recent and really sad passing of Harry (who pretty much wrote it all with Dan, not to mention played one of the main characters), I think any chance of a third Ghostbusters being made is pretty much all but dead in the water now.

I wouldn't put it past the studio schmucks in Hollywood to try and remake it, though.
