Definitely ordering this. That artwork alone is gorgeous. My only request right now: why not include a sample of Katie's work on Loved By the Sun? I'm very curious.

The recording sounds very good, a solid representation of TD's score. I am really bummed out that the producers did not take (or were unable) to re-visit the true "complete score"; there are a lot of unreleased cues from LEGEND that I was expecting to see on this release. In terms of cue selection, it looks like it sticks to the MCA O.S.T. supplemented by the alternates and a teeny bit of previously unreleased cues. Could anybody specify why so many unreleased were not included? -Rick O.

I gave it chance and listened to music clips, my view still does not change and will stick with the original release. As much as I appreciate new releases/interpretations, this makes me wish I had the Varese. I used to see it at Media Play all the time and never got it. The fool I was. If you want to get the original, you can get it right here: http://www.amazon.com/Legend-Original-Motion-Picture-Soundtrack/dp/B0000014XE/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1336619407&sr=1-1 Ford A. Thaxton You might not have to pay the high eBay prices on the old Varese release. Maybe they will re-release it in their VARESE ENCORE series. http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=88760&forumID=1&archive=0 I believe it might be worth the wait, but if you do not have it, I would pay the $25-$30 for a used copy on Amazon.com before buying this interpretation. You can usually never go wrong with the original, performed by the original composers. Sounds like someone has an ax to grind....... It's highly doubtful that VARESE would be reissuing this title since it was licensed from UMG in the first place (along with a number of other titles such as the two CONAN's, CHINATWON, DRACULA,etc) The titles they will be doing I would suspect based on their past track record would be ones they licensed directly from a studio or production company in perpetuity. I would suspect something like ENEMY MINE, SERPENT AND THE RAINBOW or something along these lines would be more then likely. Ford A. Thaxton

I'll stick with this Legend, already in my collection: http://voices-in-the-net.de/legend_2005.htm Cool that someone releases a TD interpretation like this though. But Is Your Love Strong Enough by that woman sounded like a karaoke version. If Bryan Ferry had been dead, he would have turned around in his grave.

I appreciate everything you've done to preserve the art of film and television music, Mr. Thaxton. This release just doesn't excite me. (Don't take that the wrong way. Not many have lately.)

That's not a problem, you are entitled to your opinion. As far as I'm concerned, we did something outside of the box, we knew some folks were going to get their heads around it, but we felt it was a project well worth doing and will let it stand on it's own merits. I'm just curious, did you listen to the samples of this title before posting? Ford A. Thaxton

I'm just curious, did you listen to the samples of this title before posting? Ford A. Thaxton I definitely did listen to the samples. I'm not against re-recordings. I've got both of the Tadlow albums for Poledouris' Conan scores on which you worked. Those are stunning, especially Destroyer, which was a revelation after only having heard the original recording for so long. I've also got the Debney-conducted presentation of Somewhere in Time. I checked out the samples for this one immediately. For me, it just didn't click like the original versions (having seen the theatrical cut repeatedly). For me, much of what made the original recording (and so many other older electronic/electronically augmented scores) interesting was the way in which those unreal sounds were creatively weaved in and out of each other to form something greater than the sum of its parts. Take Star Trek V for example. I LOVE that synclavier ram horn effect Goldsmith used for the Klingons. I can't imagine the score without it. Then, in the extras on disc 2, its heard on its own. When I heard it I remember thinking, "That's it?" It was really strange. It sounded thin and weak. Where was the power and fury I remembered from "Without Help"? Then I realized that it wasn't the ram horn on its own, but its addition to the orchestra that worked so well. Hopefully that makes sense.

Jerry Bingham produced some exquisite artwork for our front and rear cover... Remember when you used to pretend not to be officially associated with BSX in any way? That was funny. Love the samples. Maybe he wasn't officially associated with them, but because he's a pretty cool guy, they were like, "Hey bud, let's party!" and hired him on officially.
