Wow, just stumbled onto this thread and knew nothing coming in. So glad I did. All these references and styles are right up my alley and the samples, Oblivion and otherwise, are totally rad. Going to have to bookmark this thread to return to all these great suggestions! Thanks all! Can't wait for the score!
Big M83 fan and I'm sure the score will serve the film well. But as a listening experience that I would purchase so far it's jut not working for me. I suspected that would be the case, it's not a knock against the work or anything... still looking forward to the film.

Except for the first four and last six words, I concur.
I haven't heard any real thematic material to be honest, though I haven't given it a super-detailed listen. Sounds to me like a combination of Tron: Legacy and the first two scores for the "Mass Effect" series of video games.
The strings in particular are very much Tron, while the use of electronic pulses mirrors ME, though that certainly wasn't the first place they were heard. There's definitely a real orchestra in there, and it's definitely not "dancefloor" but I'm not sure I'd hail it as anything other than a solid effort.
I listened to the advanced streaming of the soundtrack...and I enjoyed the heck out of it. I will most definitely be picking this one up when it is released. It has some Tron Legacy feel to it, but does it's own thing.
