No decision is made for the final mix of a film that a director or producer does not approve, guys.

I seem to be in a minority but I found Giacchino's Trek score to be very dull and unmemorable. Granted, it isnt quite so terrible as the score for Trek IV and VI but nor was it anywhere close to even the worst of the Goldsmith and Horner entries. In fairness, I'm quite biased because I don'tmuch care for the movie itself (Pine is great, hate the rest of the movie, especially Orci & Kurtzman's abysmal screenplay, the terrible, terrible, terrible sets, the need to change canon and Leonard Nimoy's dentures) and I've just never understood the love for Giacchino. His PS3 scores arepreety decrnt but his movies scores just leave me cold. So ai'm not exactly thrilled about either the score for this one or the film itself. The trailers don't thrill me (the latest one looks like JJA is rehearsing for his Star Wars gig). Yeah, his game scores were warm and well-recorded, but his film scores are just loud, bangy, and shrill. There are high points here and there, but his action material is needlessly loud.

VI is one of the best. Different, yes, but very appropriate for the film.

Ben Burtt should be consumed by a black hole...would solve most of our problems, I'm sure... Nah. His work is brilliant. His sfx editing is the best in the business, his mixing skills are some of the worst IMO. He has been very out spoken about his hate for music in movies and it shows when he gets a chance to mix a film.
