This movie just looks so...weird.

Yeah. I think it looks very Wachowski, which means it probably won't do very well. But Warner Bros. continues to throw money at them. Anyway, they made the right choice in composer. smile

I think technically much of the funding for this and "Cloud Atlas" were from European investors and WB simply distributes their films...

the movie looks like a major turd... the only thing interesting about it is Giacchino and the way Sean Bean is going to die.

Have to agree with Lokutus - this looks like a terrible movie.
It could be a great score though.

It also appears that they are trying to make Channing Tatum a cross dresser or something.

It all depends on how seriously the movie and its stars takes itself. Think of say, the Fifth Element, which looks similarly ludicrous from its trailers but is highly entertaining in a B movie sense.

That said, I'm not particularly optimistic as the Watchowski siblings haven't done anything particularly solid since V for Vendetta (which they produced). The Matrix Sequels, Speed Racer and Cloud Atlas were all beautiful looking, but just didn't work.

Tatum's a good actor (certainly better than I initially gave him credit for when he first burst onto the scene), but I can't shake the impression that he's just escaped from the Island of Dr. Moreau.

Chris.

Captain

I agree, it is possible to pull off absurd sci-fi, but it has to be semi comical and be aware of itself. These guys have come across as pretty self important in much of what they have done, nothing close to the silliness of Fifth Element, which I like. The Matrix and Cloud Atlas come off has as ponderous and lecture like to me. So I do not have much hope for this one.

I like imaginative and thought provoking sci-fi, and it would be nice to have something in the genre that is NOT DC or Marvel based.

You speak the true true.

I kind of liked Cloud Atlas even the segments directed by Wachowskis.
The others (including Matrix) not so much... but I'll probably give it a chance when it will be out on DVD/BD - mainly to hear the other half of the score, which will remain unreleased. Jupiter must the be the score I am currently most curious about and one of the most anticipated scores of the rest of this year (together with 1864 and Hercules).

Why only half of the score is going to be released?

Why only half of the score is going to be released?

Most score releases are between 50-75 minutes (80 minutes is the maximum that fits on a CD), and most films nowadays have almost music playing almost all the time. A 2-hour film could easily have 1 hour and 45 minutes of score. Plus, the vast majority of scores released nowadays get a single disc release.

This means a lack of confidence in the picture.
They see a high bomb potential and they are reducing the risk against other films.

No surprise there, but they'll hardly save anything...

anyway, february will be very big and exciting with Marco's SEVENTH SON and now also new Giacchino too.

Changes, plus delay, plus possible lack of confidence in the film = Still plenty of time to have Zimmer or Brian Tyler rescore the film.

The movie's been delayed until February next year, so amazon.fr has some updating to do.

New trailer! It explains a bit more about the plot.

From what I see, the film could be a lot of fun if it isn't bogged down by an overly serious tone. But that line about dogs did have me cringe. Either way, I think Giacchino can deliver a fantastic score for this movie.

Oh, yes: that "dog" line was so... horrible. I hope that is not indicative of the dialogue or the humor in the whole film. Then again, they put this in the trailer...

In the end, at least we´ll get a new Giacchino score.
