I'd give my left nut for a release of Psycho II or III. I'd love Psycho IV also but less so. How about a Psycho box set? You hear me Intrada?

Seriously, if the new "Bates Motel" series is a hit, there's no better time to do it.

I'll raise you to wishing expanded releases of Psycho II, Psycho III & a premiere release for Psycho IV, the latter by Graeme Revell and also a good candidate for a long overdue release!

I like Psycho IV also, but it is not in the same level of II and III. Some good recordings of the original Psycho and some good original material from Revell, but the two do not really match - similar to what happened in Basic Instinct 2.

Each score is very different as are the movies; in all honesty I felt Burwell's score for Psycho III first time I heard it was nowhere near the class of the first two, aside from "Maureen in the Desert", most of the score is very cheesy. But it has grown on me since. Goldsmith's score isn't without its flaws either, some of the synth cues are a bit out there. But I'd still want to hear a complete release, if only for the great Norman Bates theme.

I read that Anthony Perkins was touched to tears by Goldsmith's Norman Bates theme. I'll have to find the source and get back to you.

Looks like there will be no answer from Intrada. I had emailed them about a week ago asking if Pyscho II and III was a project in the works, and I haven't recieved any word. So, it looks like we will have to wait and hope that some label will release it in the near future. I hope so, Psycho II is one of my favorite Goldsmith scores.

Intrada has long had a strict MO about not talking about titles before they are ready. From personal experience (and other posters here have expressed) no emails enquiries about future projects are replied to.

I just rewatched this film last night, and I was touched by the tender score by none other than Jerry Goldsmith himself. I looked for the score on Amazon and found that it has long been out of print from an old March 1990 CD release from Varese Sarabande. Some resellers are charging as high as $240 to $387 for a new copy and $85 plus for used copies and the score is bare bones to boot - OUCH! It's time for a new release of this beautiful score.

Intrada is working on this and Psycho III.

That's great news. I love these scores!

Does anybody have a track list of the complete score to show what cues from the film remain unreleased?

I love that, aside from a reprise of "The Murder" at the beginning of the film, the score doesn't try to copy Bernard Herrmann's but instead simply forges its own identity. There are some beautiful passages, but also some terrific suspense. I especially love "It's Not Your Mother," the way it builds and builds until exploding into a frenzy of terror.

It looks like the German CD-R re-issue of the MCA LP / CD presentation isn't available anymore. I just tried looking for it on the German Amazon site and there wasn't a price attached to it.

With all the attention PSYCHO II gets I'm sure that Intrada is aware of the desire for an expanded reissue. If the release is at all doable I'm sure it will happen someday.

I remember either Goldsmith or the director mentioning that the film's Norman Bates theme wasn't originally the main theme, but a more isolated piece of music that the director liked and asked Goldsmith to expand and make the film's main theme. I've always wondered if Goldsmith actually recorded any of his earlier designs for the score or if this was a choice made early in Goldsmith's writing of the score.

Still my favorite score of all time. Intrada keeps a tight lip on projects. But I have faith they will release Psycho II in complete form some time in the next couple of years. They have a big slate of titles on their plate, but they won't forget about this one. No way.

As for me,
I hope for years of a complete score of Psycho II.
Maybe we get it soon from Intrada.
I love everything from this score.
the Main Title is beautifull and when Norman Bates comes home, there is a beautifull track [unreleased] walking the steps of the house.
Like what Intrada did for Explorers, maybe they do it also for Psycho II.

I continue to pray to the Film Score Gods in hopes of having, at least my pleas, heard and answered. This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the film; sooooo - this is the perfect time for a complete release of this most Holy of Grail scores.

There hasn't been any official confirmation of any new releases of Psycho II or III at all - anywhere. Someone in this thread mentioned that it was in the works, but they had no official sources to quote from. It's all speculation at this point.

Of course, I hope it happens smile

I read the other day that Shout Factory! is releasing II and III on Blu-ray later this year - it would be wonderful if both expanded scores were released around that time as well.

Yeah, the Blu-rays are coming in September, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the scores sometime around then.
