While we are on the subject of TONY BENNETT, he did a nice vocal version of JOHN BARRY'S main theme for WALKABOUT-71-Although to be honest it could never compete with Barry's intense and touching instrumental variations of that great theme. Tony gave it a good shot.

Yes if you look at Barry's total film score output , he probably had more singers , sing his music then any other film composer with the exception of HENRY MANCINI.i intend this to be a long thread, so in time I and hopeful others will contribute to list a large amount of vocal film music[like my genre pretty music thread has]

ROBIN AND MARIAN-76-JOHN BARRY- There was a female vocal singer who sang the main theme, it was not used in the final print. It looks like it was rejected but originally intended for the film. Short but sweet.

It maybe a bit ironic, that PINO DONAGGIO started his career, popular in ITALY doing music for many songs, including his hit sensation YOU DON'T HAVE TO SAY YOU LOVE ME BY DUSTY SPRINGFIELD in the mid 60's. Yet with all his beautiful melodic film scores very few vocal versions were done on his pretty themes.

For a very short period MAUREEN MCGOVERN got to be known as the film disaster singer, She got a giant hit from the film THE POSIDEN ADVENTURE-72- called THE MORNING AFTER, then a lesser hit from THE TOWERING INFERNO-74- called WE MAY NEVER LOVE LIKE THIS AGAIN, if one wants to call GOLD-74-a sought of disaster film well she sang a couple of songs from that effort, music by ELMER BERNSTEIN.

If one was to ask the question -What singer or group sung the most film music? Off the top of my head probably the answer would be THE HENRY MANCINI SINGERS.

Like many things in life, getting the right break, lady luck and timing play a big factor in so called success. Some singers did a good share of film theme songs and never got a giant hit others only did a few and bingo, get a smash out of it, Such was the case with the fine singer GENE PITNEY, who got a big hit out of TOWN WITHOUT PITY-60- DIMITRI TIOMKIM'S title theme. What some people might not realize that his other big hit from a film THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE-62- was never used in the actual film.
