Here's some interesting trivia about the Mountbatten score. I interviewed John Scott back in the 90s, and he revealed that there was not enough money to record music for the whole six hour series. So he wrote, in effect, "library music" for the series -- i.e. a limited number of cues, but most of them designed to work in more than one scene. His music for William The Conqueror was conceived much the same way.

Hi, I have the Movietrack Classics CD, and i would like to know if the Varese limited CD has a better sound. Thanks

I've heard this album many years ago, on the original LP. And although I was, and still am, a great admirer of John Scott, I found this music more than a little dull - and not delicate and sophisticated in the way that THE SHOOTING PARTY e.g. is.

george fenton... If you see my post a few clicks up, I confirm that the new Varese CD is much better sounding. The Varese is taken from the tapes, while the MovieTracks edition was an unauthorised release taken straight from a vinyl source. If you like this score, buy the new Varese issue before the 15th.

Interesting that the Soundtrack Collector database lists the title of this telefilm as "Lord Mountbatten The Last Viceroy" rather than the title that appears on this soundtrack release (minus the "Lord"). Anybody know the story on that one? Well the title of the mini-series on IMDB is "Lord Mountbatten The Last Viceroy" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090475/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast I suspect that it might be just title change for either the US or UK market. At this late stage it doesn't really matter much now does it? Ford A. Thaxton
