Yeah, I was thinking that. I mean, 60-80 tracks is excessive, too, but these releases are already about excess, so why not go for it? Put those track titles on a toilet paper roll or something if they don't fit on the back cover.

I'm so delighted this score is finally getting the love and attention it deserves and thank you LaLa Land for being the ones to finally make this dream a reality.
Certainly there are some strange decisions made as far as some cues being out of sequence (The Boys Go To Town should be followed by the Gunfight, Wyatt's Nightmare should be between Urilla Dies and Nicholas Springs Wyatt) and the joining of tracks which either were never intended to be joined and which now drown out passages such as the opening of Indian Charlie and the misnaming of titles. The disc 3 version of 'Wyatt Meets Josie' is the correct music whereas the track entitled Wyatt Meets Josie on disc 1 is actually identical to 'Wyatt And Josie In Bed' which is where it belongs. Given the involvement of James Newton Howard and Kevin Costner I am guessing that these decisions were made by them rather than LaLa Land and once again I thank the label for this tremendous effort.

Hopefully MV can shed light on this.

Where's Lukas when you need him?

Are all of the multi-cue tracks actually joined or cross-faded in some manner?

It only bothers me when there are either conflicting emotions, or it hides a clean opening or closing.

For example, I'd like to remove 'Campfire' from disc 2, track 19 - is that possible?

(and the lack of positivity is only that I haven't heard it yet, being in the UK)

In the case of campfire there is very little crossfade. In other cases such as disc 1 track 3 there is a split second gap but in most cases the crossfades are very much crossfades. It's certainly not the end of the world it just means I'll be keeping the original disc in order to hear Indian Charlie without a crossfade at the intro. and probably spending a number of hours creating 'clean' tracks. But it is still a glorious set.

Shaun I agree with you. If they are proud of their remastering they should make it so you can easily grab the tracks from the album and put them together in your own version that is mastered how it is on this release. I hadn't tried this yet so I hadn't noticed but I'm taking your word that you can't just grab the tracks and do that.

But like you said, the original album has a more natural sound so it works to have both versions side by side. If you are able to enjoy the full dynamic range then put on the original album and enjoy the highlights.

I don't mean to complain though. I do really like the score and how it was presented overall so most likely I will listen to it in complete order more often than not. This is one score where having every cue is worth it and the album is awesome to keep.

EDIT: For those who want a cover without the WB logo. This is my scan of the front of the booklet.

Thanks for the digital version smile Even better than my scan, which seems to have a hair or something on there that drives me nuts.

What are the major missing highlights over the original album?

It's got the end credits for a start.

I dont know why LLL does not focus more on the unreleased bits to hear the new stuff...

I'm sorry, but what are you talking about?

Seriously, please clarify your statement.

The sequencing/overlapping of tracks is... odd on this then? That's unlike LLL. I'm guessing other hands at work... WB? Costner?

Disappointing because, yep, it means holding onto the original (4 CDs of Wyatt Earp is silly).

Still waiting for mine to arrive.

This happens on most every one of their releases, actually. Maybe you're just getting the right/wrong ones.

Guys, I seriously wouldn't characterize this as a ton of overlapping cues... some cues are joined together on a single track, I assume to prevent there from being 120 tracks. Some ARE slightly overlapped, but I have to be honest... I barely noticed, and it certainly didn't affect my enjoyment of the overall release.

But I guess if this is the kind of thing that bothers you, I'd defer to Shaun and others who pay much more attention to this issue.

P.S. The only time overlapping has ever truly bothered me was on Intrada's YOUNG GUNS II. But that was pretty egregious.

Man, Young Guns II was pretty horrible. It's just one of those things that bothers me because it makes no sense most of the time it's done. I'm sure if they stopped doing it, I'd find something else to complain about, but this is my main problem with most of the expanded sets coming out (not just from LLL).

I'll probably just put my original album as Disc 3 in the case from the new one. Not interested in ever listening to the bonus tracks.

I for one was really impressed with the liner notes and I agree with the author that "Signs" is one of the best soundtracks of all time.

....... It's all here. Original album was only an hour, and the score tops out at well over two. Much of the new stuff is thematic material that was on the first CD, but here it's much more developed... very much like a Wyatt Earp symphony.

I was hoping this release would cause someone to trade in their "old" ost so i could buy it.

This has indeed happened!
Picked up a used copy for 2$ at Amoeba!

I really like it and 60 minutes seems just right.
But, i STILL have not seen the film. Maybe, after that I will desire a longer version of the score. (still, 3 discs???!!!)

I see the no cross-fade crazies are out in force.
Lets meet at the OK Corrall and settle this once and for all!
