Finally got this but anyone else find the mix very weird? Almost feels like the channels should be reversed; maybe an individual preference. Also some volume fluctuations here and there, I wonder what source they used. Still a fun score, better than I thought it would be.

It *is* a strange mix unfortunately. Clearly from the same source as the isolated score track on the BD/DVD. Even worse - a direct comparison reveals that natural pauses in the music on the iso-track include room noise and click tracks while on the CD these noises have been reduced to silence, resulting in a harsh noise/no noise effect. And overall, yes, the whole thing sounds somewhat unnatural. I was disappointed.
There's a much more professional CD release out there, somewhere, waiting to happen. And hopefully it'll include Chattaway's first score and Goldsmith's third.
Unless you could get it very cheap and don't mind listening to what apparently is an isolated score track rather than a proper album mix; I would even advise to get the blu-ray instead, at least that way you get the movie and extras as well.

In fact... extracting the isolated score is probably a good idea. It'll have the same content as the CD but without the additional tinkering.
From more than 100 CDs I've bought last year, only two were huge disappointments due to the sound. "Maniac Cop 2" is by far the worst sounding CD I've bought in 2013. ("Hawk The Slayer" from BSX, which sounds like they pressed a 128 kbit/s MP3 on CD, is the other one.) I would suggest you wait until someone releases "Maniac Cop 2" in a proper edition. The sound on this one sucks.
