Listened to this on Spotify this morning. Favorite track is "World's Worst Curtain Call" which has some references to Newman's material. The rest of it is typical animated underscore, highlighting the action on screen. Is it worth the $7.99 download? Not for me it isn't, but I am really happy that Disney is at least making these scores available for those that want them. Now if they would release a digital download of the music to Prep and Landing by Giacchino, that would be awesome...
Reminds me a lot of his Land of the Lost score. Lots of mickeymousing, not a great deal of interest. One of the major themes sounds a great deal like a theme from one of the Medal of Honor scores (can't remember which one, maybe Frontline).
Did anybody see this? Any comments on how Giacchino's score worked in the short? Were there any fun nods to classic horror scores?
I saw it, and enjoyed it very much. It's like a mini-Toy Story feature. Didn't have the emotional wallop of the third film (how could it?), but it told a nice story with those characters, and added a few more. (There was a great sight gag with a new character, a cat Pez dispenser, and a self-important Transformers-like toy.)
The music did the job, but it didn't really stand out.

There are TWO great references with the main NEW character regarding two of his films.
I loved the special. I thought it was really well done. Combat Carl (voiced by Carl Weathers) stole the show in my opinion. I hope they use him again. I agree the score was just functional. Didn't really stand out at all.
