I would love to get a complete release of SWEET CHARITY. The old (OOP) CD was the old LP program which was missing quite a bit of good music.

You can also add BABE: Deluxe Edition (VARESE CLUB) to the unbranded list.

Thanks for that! Varese's press release didn't even mention who the producer/mixer/masterer was; I had no idea this was a Matessino title until a week after it came out! Their press release also didn't mention it being done with cooperation from Universal Pictures or anything, so I forgot it was a Universal Picture title too!

According to the Financial Times, Vivendi plans to spin out Universal Music Group, its biggest business, and distribute 60 per cent of the group’s share capital to its investors by the end of the year as it moves to capitalize on the rising value of music assets.

Vivendi shares rose as much as 20 per cent yesterday to €31.50, their highest level since 2007.

If approved by shareholders at a vote in late March, the divestment will lead the world’s biggest music company, which is home to pop stars including Lady Gaga and Kanye West, to be an independent business in which Vivendi would only own a 20 per cent stake.

Seems like this can only be good news, in that it will result in one less level of corporate interference with what the local UMG people want to do.

To answer a few questions:

1. Exclusive to LLL? Possibly, but you never know.

2. Both original and expanded releases planned.

3. TV - yes at some point, with Night Stalker, Munsters, 6 Million Dollar Man at the top of the list.

4. Hope to have the first 3 out by years end, then starting in Jan 2019 every other month. smile

Here it is.

I have at least 10 of these and they are all brilliant. Sorry to harp - but what I'd give for a Frank Skinner batch. Having just been blown away by his score for 'Captain Newman, MD', I was even more impressed with the recent blu-rays of 'The Ugly American' and 'The Appaloosa'.

Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid is the 16th title in the collection

https://store.intrada.com/s.nl/it.A/id.12573/.f

Miklos Rozsa’s final soundtrack on new 2-CD set! Released as part of the ongoing Universal Pictures Film Music Classics Collection and in honor of Rozsa’s 115th birthday (April 18, 1907), Intrada presents Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid, the composer’s masterful tribute to his own scoring style of the Golden Age and his very final film soundtrack.

Carl Reiner directs Steve Martin in this 1982 homage to film noir, replete with murder, mystery and romance. Rachel Ward co-stars with a treasure trove of famous “cameos” by Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, Bette Davis, Barbara Stanwyck, Fred MacMurray, Burt Lancaster, Alan Ladd and others in bits from White Heat, The Lost Weekend, The Big Sleep, The Postman Always Rings Twice, This Gun For Hire and other classics.

Miklos Rozsa has a most unusual opportunity to compose a rich symphonic score tipping his hat to the edged, aggressive dynamics of his earlier Double Indemnity and The Killers as well as paying tribute to his lush romantic vernacular. In signature fashion, Rozsa writes an angular motif for the suspense in the movie, full of interval leaps and intensity. Getting equal attention in the other direction is his warm, ravishing love theme, itself full of dips and swirls. Both ideas permeate the score throughout with a degree of forward motion and pace. Keeping the orchestra in tempo is noted film music composer Lee Holdridge, who was brought in to conduct Rozsa’s “swan song” to the art form he so excelled at and earned three Academy Awards in the process.

Intrada’s presentation of this splendid work has been assembled and mastered from the 1/2” three-channel stereo scoring session masters vaulted in pristine condition in the Universal archives. CD 1 contains Rozsa’s entire 62-minute score, CD 2 presents additional scoring cues and alternates. Footnote: Besides being the last soundtrack scored by Miklos Rozsa, this film was also the last to feature the incomparable costume designing of Edith Head. Score recorded in January 1982 by Robert Fernandez at The Burbank Studios. Lee Holdridge conducts, Miklos Rozsa composes. Intrada Special Collection 2-CD set available while quantities and interest remain!

Frenzy by Ron Goodin & Henry Mancini is the 18th title in the collection

https://quartetrecords.com/product/frenzy/

Quartet Records and Universal Pictures Film Music Classics Collection proudly present the world premiere release of both the used and unused scores for Alfred Hitchcock’s FRENZY, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the film.

FRENZY marked the director’s triumphant return to London in 1972. With an excellent script by Anthony Shaffer, the film was immediately considered one of Hitchcok’s best and has since become a classic.

After the parting of ways with Bernard Herrmann, Hitchcock changed composers in each of his last four films, choosing from those who were popular at the time. For FRENZY, his first choice was Henry Mancini (BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S, THE PINK PANTHER, HATARI!, CHARADE), who wrote a sumptuous, gothic-hued score featuring an unusual orchestral palette. The main theme uses the dolorous tones and sepulchral pedals of a mighty organ, and the tension-filled score that follows is grim and at times almost brutal. Hitchcock, feeling it was too “dark and cruel,” turned it down and hired celebrated British composer Ron Goodwin (MURDER, SHE SAID, BATTLE OF BRITAIN, WHERE EAGLES DARE, SQUADRON 633) to compose a lighter, yet still suspenseful, score. For the main title, a panoramic shot over the Thames, Goodwin wrote a majestic melody ornamented with trumpets and timpani, in the best English tradition of pomp and circumstance.

FRENZY was the only completely rejected score in Henry Mancini’s long career, and also one of the most famous and requested Goodwin scores over the ensuing decades. Neither of them, however, have previously been officially released in any form until today.

This collection has been painstakingly produced, restored and mastered by Mike Matessino from stereo and mono elements vaulted at Universal Pictures, with the collaboration of both the Ron Goodwin and Henry Mancini estates.

This special edition features an exclusive, in-depth essay by writer and composer Deniz Cordell packaged in a 28-page booklet.
