Is he going to maybe modify the review once he sees the movie? It just seems like it's too soon, I don't know.

Yes, that's some really great poster work - I got rather excited about the film looking at it. I also like how the artist bases Superman's pose on the "Superman" issue one (volume one) cover - it gives the whole thing a nice sense of history and awareness, and it's rather kinetic, too. Thanks for posting it! (Also, one of the red slashes running through the poster almost makes it look like Superman still has his red tights - I wonder if that was a sly gag from the artist.) Oh, as for the score, I've listened to it once, and can't say I was terribly taken with it, it seemed rather "Batman-lite," though that seems like a rather dismissive way of putting it - so I apologize for not being much more articulate at the moment. There also seemed to be a lot of ambient scoring, which is something I still haven't been able to connect to - but if you like that sort of thing, you should find the score rather involving. Unlike his Batman scores though, I don't really remember (or rather, didn't latch on to) any of the motivic ideas or musical concepts in this one. Still, I'll give it another listen soon and see if my opinion on it changes for better or for worse. The one thing I'm most curious to hear is the "Sketchbook" track (I haven't listened to the second disc yet), as even though I run hot-and-cold on Zimmer (I find much to enjoy and engage with in "The Thin Red Line," "Black Rain," "Thelma and Louise," and "Inception," which I was rather surprised by), his work process interests me quite a bit.

The choir keeps singing the german vowels in alphabetic order "a e i o u" . . . So, it's EDUCATIONAL!

Haha, that's great, Mike. I spent like, three hours yesterday editing that "What Is And What Should Never Be" (or whatever it's called) track into a version that's more like the trailer (I'm not really amazing at editing). It basically just puts the Vangelis-sounding part before the explosion of thrusting horns (blushes) and creates an extended version of how the trailer music was set up. Works much better as music, as the trailer version's build is what makes that explosion into flight pay off like it does.

I plan on recreating the trailer music editorially as well. Did you only use that track with the long name, or did you grab the piano work from something else? Also, when you said it explodes into flight, you didn't mean the track titled 'Flight' did you? Just the 'climatic' portion of the track with the long name, right? All the info you can share on this would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe apropos of nothing, but I put the trailer music from Planes on my iPod this morning. It definitely has the MV / RC "sound" that must be had these days. But it sounds more like Superman than Man of Steel does.

It's not amazing or anything, but I was so used to the trailer version, that last track just sounded...wrong to me. All the drama that leads up to the part in the trailer where he flies (what I was talking about up there) is in that Vangelis-like stuff, and to have that part come AFTER the music where he flies just doesn't sound right. The only thing I did was copy that "Vangelis" section and put it before the big action bit, all using that last "What Will You Do If You Aren't Supermaning All The Time?" cue. I let the track play out after, so the Vangelis section repeats. But it sounds cool that way! I can't believe I wrote this much. whisper3978@gmail.com
