Robert Townson addresses some of your "issues" here

Nicely done, too! Though I imagine some will choose not to believe him.

Agreed - on both counts.

Townson is a cool guy, and one of my heroes too for all the great releases he has given us over the years.

I defer to Mr Townson's judgement. Have done since Cleopatra. The new Varese set is a tremendous accolade to the memory of Alex North. Glad I was here to see it.

I love what Robert Townson had to say. You can hear the heart in it. I hope he remembers that some of us aren't complaining AT ALL!!!!! We are over-joyed and share his tangible excitement.

As for others, it just goes to show that the anonymous person who first said "There's no pleasing some people" is one of the wisest men or women who ever lived.

I don't know who would've been displeased if this set was only 3 or 4 CDs for $65 or $75 instead of 6 CDs + book + DVD for $110. Maybe Varese's merchant account wouldn't be having so much money flowing into it with each order, but everybody else would likely be completely satisfied. And for the people who can barely spend $20 on a release, let alone $110, it would be slightly more accessible to them as well.

Robert Townson addresses some of your "issues" here:

"The elements needed a lot of work!" -- Isn't that the case for most of these older scores? Bottom line is that if he cut the DVD and the book and with it the price by $30, the entire thing would be much easier to swallow. I hope adding the fake stereo effect to the mono tracks didn't cost anything.

I know! With all of these grateful and thankful posts and the appreciative folk here at Film Score Monthly, we can't possibly be one of those message boards, right?

Right?

Pardon my French, but no shit!

Gotta say both this and the Star Trek Deluxe Edition releases from Varese have gotten the conspiracy theory treatment from certain quarters here. Everyone certainly has the right to state and debate their opinions, but it's all of the speculation being peddled as probable cause or even worse as factual data without any actual evidence to back it up that I find a bit disconcerting. Apparently reason and due diligence in finding out the facts before throwing out accusations and perceived motivations seems to be missing here to a point that is problematic to say the least...and it's been getting worse the past few years.

And to think I was almost feeling guilty about calling you out as "whiny be-atches." Now I realize that was far too nice.

I have a suggestion for everyone with ideas of WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE:

Put your money where your over-exercised mouths are and produce one of these yourself some day!

I know! With all these whiny 3 year-olds at Film Score Monthly, it can't possibly be one of those message boards, right?

Robert Townson is a professional working for a for-profit business. Everybody here who is "whining" has likely given his company hundreds if not thousands of dollars in sales over the years. So, can we speak our peace on this discussion forum or not? Calling people 3 year-olds isn't helping advance the discussion at all.

Ya whiny be-atches.

James

Hear hear. The funniest thing is people complaining when they have no idea what went into *this* particular score. They just assumed that since Intrada can fire out four CDs a month at 20 bucks each, that Spartacus would be the same.

Never feel guilty for exercising supreme restraint.

That's a good argument. Why don't we just shut this message board down since it has been declared that nobody can talk about these releases but other record producers.

By all means, educate us about what went into this particular score.

Read Townson's note.

Jonathan, I get it: you're bitter. It's a ridiculous price. Go to the trading post and state your intent to pay 5 bucks for a chance to win the SPARTACUS set and let's just move on. ^^

EDIT: Also, this will be selling well I'm sure, it just got front page of The Digital Bits. http://thedigitalbits.com/#mytwocents

Yes, but it helps the label patrol to feel better.
