I had a small case crack too which was no big deal. The discs are another story though. Disc 1, in particular, has a circular scratch that can cause serious skipping (especially with older players).
I've discovered the same problem with my discs, too. A circular scratch on disc 1 and numerous small scratches on disc 2... very disappointing, and proves your problem is not an isolated incident. I'm playing both discs today and tomorrow, and if there is one skip, SAE will be notified. These are the worst looking discs I've ever received... if they play through, I won't bother SAE. With my luck, the replacements will be the same. Makes one wonder where the QC has gone.
Exactly what I've been saying now for months about FSM and Intrada discs and no one seemed to care. The last few Intradas have been better but my Black Sunday is totally scratched. I have to live with it, though, because SAE won't replace any more. Geez, I really look forward to Star Trek III, one of my favourite scores of all time, having the living shit scratched out of it and not being able to do anything about it. Joy. And think of this: Regardless of whether or not they play, these are supposed to be collector's items. No good reason at all that they should have a single scratch on them if all the major label releases I buy, pressed in the multi-thousands, don't. And before someone gets all uppity because I'm dissing FSM and Intrada, I'm not. I love their content more than my favourite meal at my favourite restaurant, just not the current QA at the pressing plants these two labels use.
I'm halfway through disc one with no skips... keeping my fingers crossed.
Speaking of Intrada, my MR ATLAS played fine despite a few interesting scratches.

But the question is, should these discs have scratches on them at all, regardless of whether or not they play fine? I know the music's the most important part, but my car runs fine whether or not it's scratched and I guarantee you most car owners would lose it if someone came along and keyed their ride.

My discs had no visible imperfections whatsoever, so whatever happened at least it did not affect the entire run.

Hey folks, the circular "scratch" that you're all talking about, do you man the "ring about halfway across Disc 1?
Is that a scratch?
I thought it was just a mark, I mean I've got other disc's with similar marks on (not from FSM) and they don't appear to effect playback.
I've played through mine on a 20 year old Panasonic cd player (it's all I have) and it plays fine.
However "Judge RoyBean" (which hasn't got any marks at all on) won't play at all.
Go figure.

Maybe you should check to see if your credit card has been billed. And maybe email SAE.

Finally received my copy, nice and scratched just like I like 'em. Other than that, an incredible release.

Absolutely LOVE this release (no scratches on Disc 1...haven't tried Disc 2 yet, because I have the original CD).
It's funny, because for a long time I dismissed this score as basically a repeat of ST-II, but it's definitely much better than that. ST-III was the first Trek film I ever saw (weird, I know, but I was a little too young for II), and that short cue that plays when the sun sets on Genesis has always stuck in my head, so it's great to finally have it on the CD.
Also, great job on the linear notes....I finally have an answer to why there's that burst of dissonance in the middle of Stealing the Enterprise!

I was just reading Christian Clemmensen's new/updated review of the expanded Star Trek III (don't ask me why I bothered). Here's an especially ridiculous sample: " There wasn't as much unreleased material of much value from the third film's score; most related to variations on the Klingon and Vulcan music. The most important addition is "The Klingon's Plan," a short cue that opens with 30 seconds of deep woodwinds that obviously inspired Eidelman for Star Trek VI and a Goldsmith-like organ and horn passage for the introduction of the Grissom. "
HUH? There isn't much unreleased material of much value? The most important addition is "The Klingon's Plan"? What is the crazy guy smoking?

I'm so looking forward to ordering this in the near future. Wonderful score, with a totally different emotional impact than ST2.
Yay! This CD will also finally allow me to try my hand at editing a scene in ST3 that has always bothered me:
In the scene where Kirk investigates Spock's cabin only to find McCoy in a disturbed state, there are a few voice-overs which I have always felt were unecessarily added after the fact. There are a few quotes in Spock's voice which are meant to have been spoken by McCoy, and Uhura's jarring announcement to Kirk that the ship is nearing Spacedock. The first quotes I felt were likely added later to elicit an emotional response from fans. In my opinion, the announcement from Uhura damages the intense emotion of the scene, and I always felt it was added only to help explain the outburst from Kirk imploring Uhura to "get the medics down here!" Again, Uhura's voice over is unecessary to understand that she was listening in on the situation. (This was before TNG when anyone, anywhere on the ship, could make verbal requests of the ship's computer, such as "Computer, get the medics down here! Get them now!")
So with this CD I can simply drop in the music over the offending quotes and see this scene as I've always wanted to, and the world will know definitively if it is better one way or the other!
Ok so it's a little obsessive, but that's me.
