It'd be swell to get a definitive version of this on CD, with the different mono/stereo versions included and any extra music that can be salvaged added back in. I think Twilight Time did a Blu-ray release for this...does anyone have that, and could you confirm whether it has any additional music?

A look at the stereo album cover of this score does not credit Alfred Newman for all the music in the film. He conducts music from the film. I don't know what it says on the back, however.

Questions:
- Is there more music in the film than on the CD?
- Any plans for a more complete and restored release?

Yes, it would be so great to see this score getting the deluxe treatment! A candidate for Kritzerland?
I suppose this is not one of those Varese in perpetuity titles because of the old Decca LP?

You know what would be sort of awesome? Father and son (Alfred and David) both scored versions of this story (very different ones, of course) for Fox. Wouldn't it be cool to join both of their excellent works together in a complete three disc set? Wadda ya say, LLL? Did your twofer of the Broughton and Mockridge Miracle on 34th St. scores sell okay?

Fine idea. But, I don't think LLL wants to do any more "archive" scores.

I could have sworn MV said they had some Waxman in the works.

Just FYI, I recorded all the isolated music from the blu-ray and much of it has some weird background distortion which may be magnetic tape mottling. I'm not sure it would serve well for an album - and these are the same tracks that would be provided to a soundtrack company.

I recall him mentioning some Waxman in the works too. MV has also hinted at hopefully releasing an expanded Diary of Anne Frank this year in the below thread.

A remastered re-releaseof the old album alone would be great! Perhaps there could be some bonus tracks...

There was talk of all kinds of Golden Age composers once, but I have the feeling all or at least most of those plans were dropped when sales were consistently weak-to-disastrous on their Golden Age titles.

I went ahead and grabbed the Varese CD, but I'll be picking up the dvd soon as well.

The Twilight Time Blu-ray with complete isolated score track is actually on sale (half price I think) right now from Screen Archives....

Hey, the perfect twofer!

I REALLY liked what I heard of the music.

Peripherally on topic, but I can hear what you mean Yavar way back when you mentioned Alfred's work being a bit spotty. Dragonwyck and Razor's Edge are both two scores that beg to be programmed, as there are cues there that can seem kind of trite and even for back then clichéd.

That said, whenever Alfred does what he does best (and you probably know exactly what I mean my friend) he's untouchable imo, and that does mastery does show up on both discs.

Does it sound weird that I love The Blue Bird far more than the two mentioned above? Such a magical score!!!!!!!!!!!!

The track labelled "Valse" isn't by Alfred Newman either. Although it always sounded quintessential Newman to me (probably because of the lustrous arrangement) but it's actually by Anton Arensky.

Would like to know who did that outstanding Arrangement of the Arensky Valse. The whole great middle segment of the waltz seems to be original scoring.
