TO FIRST BREATH- you really felt the song from LAST OF THE MOHICANS was better then the score?TO EACH ONE'S OWN. It's a very fine song. I haven't really heard much of the score and I have never seen the film, but I'm quite sure I will enjoy the song better than the orchestral score.

Interpreting your question another way, I never cared for the way the wonderful composer Laurence Rosenthal "adapted and conducted" Mitch Leigh's songs to MAN OF LA MANCHA. No wonder it was the only time he was asked to do so. He is much better at composing cool scores like REQUIEM FOR A HEAVYWEIGHT, THE MIRACLE WORKER and BECKET. Conversely, I thought his adaptation/conducting were absolutely BRILLIANT for "Man of La Mancha". For the record, there really haven't been many musicals made since "Man of La Mancha." Pretty much the best thing about the film, imo.

I'm gotta get smacked in the mouth for this, but "Ghostbusters." The songs are so fun and add a great deal to the film, but when I got the CD score, I was really bored by it. It then dawned on me that of all of the music I remembered from the movie, none of it came from Elmer Bernstein ... except for the one moment when they're all powering up and gonna "show this bitch how we do things downtown." Other than that, a total bummer I never listen to.
