And what about notes? Will this releases contain notes in pdf?
ps by the way, some titles costs really low to me and from that hand it's fine. For example - Ghost & Darkness is just 89 rubles and if I order CD from SAE it will cost (with shipping) something about 2800 rubles!!! Feel the difference!
But in any case I'll order actual CD sooner or later. For me CDs are still some kind of "magic", with "rituals' - you add title to box (and you is very happy in this moment!). Then - receives shipping number (you is happy again!); then - you check that tracking number all days long (if it's you Holly Grail smile ); then - it's arrives!!! So you open package, put CD in CD-player, listening it, reading notes, gets big satisfaction, 'cause finally you get CD, which you waited for 2-3 weeks smile...
And with downloading - press button, download files, listen them... Routine. big grin

Wow this is wonderful news! And thanks to those who linked to 7Digital for purchasing stuff. This is much more economical than what I saw on TIDAL when they offered lossless downloads. Some on TIDAL were as much as $20 whereas most of these are $13.99 at the most. If I had noticed this sooner I might have bought the Jungle Book (John Debney) soundtrack on 7Digital instead of ordering the CD. I'll look forward to seeing more of these titles on spotify as I look around there regularly as well.

Has anyone on this thread bought a lot of music from 7Digital before? How is the quality and speed of downloads?

I've made close to a dozen purchases from 7digital. There don't tend to be liner notes, not for score expansions anyway, but I have no complaints about the downloads themselves. I don't have the fastest internet to begin with however.

If you like 7digital, you might also try PonoMusic. It has a slightly different selection for soundtracks, sometimes in higher fidelity than you can find on 7digital (Doyle's Cinderella, for example). Some albums are cheaper there as well.

MV,

The new Chinatown expansion got me thinking -- How soon after a label expands a Paramount title on disc can we expect to see it get a digital release?

Yeah I try to avoid buying 24 bit versions. Overpriced and the difference is minimal. But good to know the process is generally smooth.

I purchased the expanded Ghost and the Darkness from Google Music today. Sounds fantastic even though the files are lossy 320kbps MP3s. And the price was literally a fraction of what it would have cost me to order the CD online, plus I didn't haven't to wait for shipping etc. I will be picking up other titles soon.

Thanks so much to La-La Land and Paramount for this, you've started something that will hopefully encourage other studios and boutique labels to follow. I can't wait for the official announcement and further titles to come.

Airplane 2 only sold 400 copies?? Have to admit I didn't get one but was on the fence. Now I will get it... Not that my one sale will help but it is such a fun score I feel guilty not having jumped on it before.

I plan on buying it too. Just haven't gotten to it yet. You know... rent, bills and all that. frown

Back On Topic... I don't mind things being released as a digital download product as long as the physical CD is still an option, with the exception of those titles that MV alludes to that won't sell enough to make it worthwhile. It still makes me sad, but I understand the logic.

I didn't even know this was released. Recall much complaining when Varese re-issued the album as a Club release....which apparently was longer ago than I thought.

MV,

Can you give us some general idea of how many titles will be release and over what amount of time?

Unfortunately it would seem that our niche market is too small to have enough consumers for certain scores.

I remember getting chastised for being critical towards the lack of people interested in newer/contemporary scores, but MV subsequently stated that there would be fewer of those getting released this year. There also seems to be the same handful of Golden Age fans clamouring for the next release, but again it seems there aren't enough of them to purchase the lesser-known titles from that era. Presumably it was the Elmer Bernstein fans who bought Airplane, but were there enough reasons to justify them getting the sequel as most of the new music was composed by someone else?

I'm often amazed at some of what I consider to be lesser quality scores that get released (and sell well) just because they're by a popular composer. For example, I prefer to stick to styles of music that I like (old or new), rather than being a completist and buying dodgy '80s synth scores by composers whose orchestral output I really enjoy (such as Kamen or Poledouris whose back catalogue I've been checking out recently). And yet there's still a good deal of modern traditional scores being written that deserve to get more attention if they were higher profile (composer and/or movie).

Are these titles released internationally? I couldn't find some of them in the Dutch iTunes Store.

As mentioned in an earlier post above, titles are available on my country's iTunes and Google Play stores, so yes I believe this is worldwide. I haven't checked every single title though.

Edit: the only title I can't find is Broke Sky. Never heard of it either wink

Based on the fact that we now know this deal does not include 3rd party titles, I'm trying to put together a list of likely titles that we may see in the future (WIP).

Edit 27/05: moved the list to the 1st post above.

Have you tried Google Play Music? All the titles except Broke Sky are on there. There do seem to be some titles missing from the iTunes store.
