From what I've read, Waititi is going for an 80's action buddy cop vibe with this new Thor. Might be the reasoning behind Mothersbaugh.

IMO: the trailer is a grand slam and the movie looks to be at least a home run for me.
Hemsworth makes a great stooge. Funniest stuff in Ghostbusters 2016 I think.

Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song for Thor should have been as obvious as Black Sabbath and Iron Man.

Yikes, someone cut off Thor's golden locks. Will that render him helpless like Samson? And the villain smashed his hammer.

The previews have me intrigued, and I'm looking forward to the movie.

SDCC trailer:

1) I need this in my life NOW.

2) What a fascinating tonal pivot this series has taken.

3) Anyone recognize the trailer music starting at :27 and :56?

Hmmmmm, It sounds like a take on any number of those prog-rock tunes of that period, with the usual trailer blasts and hits.
Could be they're just going for that prog-rock sound that MG did for Doc Strange.
Guardians Of The Galaxy looks like the new poster child for these films now.

Those trailers are horrible. And that acting? I guess that's what passes for acting now. That's a hurdle so low a baby could clear it.

That was a hoot. I'm really looking forward to what Mothersbaugh will do with this.

As much as I wish Marvel would settle on A composer for a character, well if they're not going to then I might as well enjoy what I have.

The cuts are so fast it makes no sense.

Big bad takes over Asgard, destroys Thor's hammer, Thor is in some kind of arena with the Hulk, Jeff Goldblum, action! Strong 80's vibe that will be a lot of fun for Mothersbaugh.

What are you not following?

The idea of Taika Waititi getting to do one of these movies still astounds me. WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS is a masterpiece of detail and tone.

Mothersbaugh has the kind of kooky eclecticism that Goldenthal was allowed to present in his heyday. This is a grand choice.

  • I'm not sure I disagree. Thor is either a "stuffy Shakespearean" speaking Godling, or he's firing off jokey one-liners that are all too human ("he's a friend from work"). Honestly, as someone who has read decades of his comic, most of which were pretty forgettable, I'm not thrilled they keep making him a "regular guy." There's so little of "Thor" in this trailer and, yes, it's VERY "Guardians." Annoyingly so.

Agreed. That "stilted dialogue" is part of what helped set Thor apart from the rest. I haven't read his comic (mainly perused), but his appearances in the Avengers comics that I used to collect really did set the tone of his character. It's been disappointing to see him devolve into an "alien" whose "technology is indistinguishable blah blah gurk" excuse, which is blatantly lazy and does smack of the Iron Man/Guardians vibe already presented throughout this obvious cinematic TV series. His universe needs less pew pew lazers and starships, and more "chariots of the gods" (that shot of Valkyrie on pegasusback is more like it!).

Not that I'm invested. Cap is m'boy. smile

Seriously! Even if this only turns out to be a watered down Waititi film, I'm stoked. Several of Thor's lines readings from the most recent trailer ("You and I had fight. I won, easily") almost sound like Hemsworth's doing a Jermaine Clement impression. I know this is an absurd thing to hope for, but man would it be great if Mothersbaugh's score ended up sounding like a lost Devo album.

Well enjoy! I haven't seen a trailer this cringe worthy since... Ghostbusters.

When he threw out "I won. Easily." and Banner calls him on it but Thor just plows ahead it reminded me of when Steve budged the hammer in Age of Ultron. At first Thor is about to lose it, then he heaves a sigh of relief and shouts "Nothing!"
