I like Powell's Bourne scores but don't have anything else. Not even sure I've seen too many of the films he's scored. I think I liked his How To Train Your Dragon. So I'm not sure what to expect. Hope he's allowed to do something good.

Here's hoping he gets more than 4 weeks to write the score. Although the score can't really stray too far from the John Williams scores otherwise it won't feel like a Star Wars movie.

I just wonder if Disney can make up their friggin' mind about a composer. At this point, when they get to making a Ponda Baba spinoff, it'll be scored by Harry Gregson-Williams, Bill Lee, Rachel Portman, Dimitri Tiomkin, and a partridge in a pear tree. Though I'm praying Terence Blanchard get the Kitster movie. I would have loved to hear a Zimmer STAR WARS too, but Powell is ACE!! Goodness gracious. Really? Zimmer already desecrated the memory of Elfman's Batman music and insulted it no less by calling it silly happy music or something like that, then he desecrated the memory of Superman's music and now you want to hear what he's going to do with Star Wars? I'm sure it would still be interesting to hear a Zimmer Star Wars score. Although, I hope I don't live long enough to experience it. Would he use a sound design approach claiming that he couldn't even try to match William's classic score? Would he create a synthesized score with a few orchestral instruments like he usually does? Would he actually use real orchestral instruments only, for the first time in his career? Interesting questions. But the reality is, there will be so many Star Wars movies made in the next few years that many different composers may have to be involved. I would hope though, that Zimmer wouldn't try to reduce the classic Star Wars theme down to the first two notes though. That may upset a few people including myself. Why are you trying to summon Thor? He's already here.

I thought JW had already written a theme for Han Solo in TESB. Han Solo and the Princess, but that was a love theme for the relationship between Han and Leia. Until now, Han hasn't had his own theme.

The scoring news for this film just gets better and better. I couldn't be more thrilled that Powell is composing the music for a Star Wars film. After hearing his magnificent work on the How to Train Your Dragon films, I think he is a brilliant choice. And John Williams composing Han Solo's theme? Icing on the cake. I can't wait to hear this score.

What an extremely odd development. Isn't John Powell capable of writing his own theme? I wonder if Williams and company was disappointed in Giacchino's efforts for Rogue One. Not that I'm disappointed about this news. In fact, what would really be neat is if Lucasfilm could hire Williams to write about 25 new Star Wars themes that could then be applied to all of the next dozen or so Star Wars features even if/when Williams is not around.
