The first film music from Dominic Frontiere to appear on a recording was his theme from "12 O'Clock High, which was recorded by Milton DeLugg and his Orchestra for this 1965 Metro Records LP of "The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Other TV Themes." It has not been re-issued on CD.

R.I.P. Dominic Frontiere. Your music for "The Outer Limits", "The Invaders" and "Hang 'Em High" will always resonate in my mind. Your scores for "The Outer Limits" remain your masterpiece for television, while "Hang 'Em High" remains your best feature film score. The only film composer to die in 2017 and an irreplaceable loss!

Dominic Frontiere was one of the greatest 1960's composers for television:

Stoney Burke
The Outer Limits
Twelve O'Clock High
Branded
The Rat Patrol
The Invaders

His music was constantly tracked during the fourth season of The Fugitive.

And Frontiere was wise to retain the publishing rights (and the original master tapes) to the music for "The Outer Limits" as well. Let's not forget his main title for "The Immortal" too.

Sorry to hear this news. Condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

I always enjoyed his WASHINGTON BEHIND CLOSED DOORS Theme.

Let's hope "Washington: Behind Closed Doors" gets a proper C.D. release (are you listening, Intrada?) and one day the master tapes for "The Invaders" can be found. My condolences as well.

Frontiere's first complete album of his film music was the re-recording of his score for BILLIE, the film that United Artists crafted for Patty Duke during her stardom in their series "The Patty Duke Show." Five of the LP's twelve tracks, however, were of songs not composed by Frontiere. The recording was re-issued on CD by Intrada in 2010.

Frontiere composed the theme to the television series "The Flying Nun" (1967-70). He also composed five of the 14 tracks on this Colgems LP of music and songs from and inspired by the series.

Frontiere's second score LP (all his, for the first time) was 1968's HANG 'EM HIGH. The LP had its first complete CD re-issue from Sony in 1991 (an earlier, partial, reissue was on an EMI CD). La-La Land made the most recent re-issue, in 2007.

Frontiere's third score release was for 1969's POPI. The United Artists LP was re-issued on CD by Intrada more than 40 years later in 2010. An item in the 27 December 1968 Daily Variety announced that Lionel Bart had been hired to score the film. But less than one month later, the 22 January 1969 Variety listed Frontiere as the composer. As late as March 1969, Bart was expected to write a song for the film, but Frontiere ended up composing the title song, which had lyrics by Norman Gimbel.

Didnt Hang...chart fairly high as a single in the US?

Frontiere's next LP release was his 1971 score for Bruce Brown's documentary on motorcycle racing, ON ANY SUNDAY. The Bell Records LP has only had a gray market CD release from Harkit.

I especially remember the second love theme here at about 2:10 and its power in Outer Limits.
Lovely.

HAMMERSMITH IS OUT was Frontiere's score for the final feature film pairing of Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, who previously had appeared together in eight films. Capitol Records released the score to this 1972 film, which was recorded in England. Quartet re-issued the score more than 40 years later in 2013.

After the filmTHE STUNT MAN was completed, the filmmakers still did not have a distributor. Undaunted, they ran the film in one Seattle, WA, theater to receptive audiences for two months. It was also shown at Seattle and Dallas, TX, film festivals. Then, executive producer Melvin Simon’s company booked the movie in a Westwood, CA, theater for its 22 August 1980 Los Angeles opening. On 3 September 1980, it was announced that Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corp. would handle domestic distribution. The film won the Montreal Film Festival’s Grand Prize on the same day it acquired distribution. Fox also released Dominic Frontiere's score on its 20th Century Fox record label.

Frontiere won a Golden Globe award for his score. Intrada re-issued the Fox LP on CD in 2008.

Varese Sarabande released Frontiere's score to 1985's THE AVIATOR on LP. It was Frontiere's last score that debuted on LP. The score was re-issued in a slightly expanded format by La-La Land in 2007. The complete score was released by Intrada in 2015.

COLOR OF NIGHT was Frontiere's only feature film score to make its debut on CD at the time of the film's release. Mercury Records released it on CD in 1994.

This was an album re-recording/rearrangement, so the original music from the miniseries remains unreleased.

Although the first thing you see on screen is the Leslie Stevens Productions logo, Frontiere has executive producer credit on this Stevens-penned 1974 TV movie. Enjoy Frontiere's music and ignore the escape hatch that sense disappears through.
