As they say....Ordered. I have the Sony release, played it not long ago and of course I have the tracks that are in the Jerry Goldsmith at 20th Century Fox Boxed set. Can't wait for this. It will be arriving with The Hellfighters. 60s movie music goodness.
What am I going to do with the old Varese cd (the first cd I ever bought in 1985) and that Sony thingy?
In the trash they go for me.
Why don't you try to sell them and make a few bucks towards the new Intrada disc? Seems like a real waste to just throw them out.
Anyways, I'll be buying this. For those whining that there's only five new minutes of material, would you also say that you'd be satisfied with the original release of The Final Conflict despite the horrendous sound quality?
EDIT: Listened to the sound clips...so much crisper than the old Sony CD. Totally worth the upgrade for one of Goldsmith's greatest scores.
COOL! Now I'll have 4 BLUE MAX's: the CITADEL LP, VARESE CD, SONY CD and now INTRADA's. I used to have the original MAINSTREAM LP, but I sold it in the 70's for a nice sum. I also like how Intrada reversed the poster image for the cover, too. Hehe. Way to go, Doug! Ordered!
"The Blue Max" is a film that should merit a "blu-ray" video release. The SD-DVD was just terrible. The intermission and entr'acte music was whacked-short and there was NO "exit music" at all......(of course). Then to top it all off the SD-DVD was released in 2-channel stereo whereas the CinemaScope film was originally released with a 4-channel stereo mix. Make no mistake "The Blue Max" was a BIG-IMPORTANT release by 20th Century-Fox in 1966. It should NOT be relegated to the "just another old movie" mindset (well, really NONE of the CinemaScope films should be...). This film DESERVES to be relased in blu-ray.......

I agree. It played roadshow in the summer of 1966 and my parents went to see it. I was going on 10 and they didn't take me or my sister. I think they wanted to go to a movie alone. I have never seen it widescreen, I regret to say.
Well, this is (believe it or not) my first ever purchase of any Blue Max CD. I've never heard it before, so it's a bit of a spec buy for me. Hopefully, I'm in for a treat.
So in other words, for only $19.95, you get five minutes more music than was on the "definitive" Legacy release from 1995.
I'm beginning to wonder what's the point? I am more than happy with the Legacy edition.I dont want to double up on the same music.Same goes for Island in the stream, the re recording,I find is superior to the original tracks.Jery Goldsmith said so him self.would rather buy a score I dont have,I mean if you dont have the previous cd releases, then fine,go for the Intrada cd.

One HELL of a treat!
And yeah, this film was a big deal when it came out. Fox promoted it as the War Movie to end all War Movies.
Ordered... and I actually dropped my head on my computer desk when I saw what it was Intrada released today -- can't believe another Goldsmith score CD I HAVE to own -- and I haven't even received ISLANDS IN THE STREAM yet! I guess the Legacy BLUE MAX CD is (which I had for years) is junk now. Oh, well. So... what's the Goldsmith score for next week?
By the way, agree that the SD-DVD of BLUE MAX needs remastering, but as for Blu-ray.... what classic film not yet on Blu-ray needs a Blu-ray release?!!!! Answer: EVERYTHING!
Oh, and if Fox does -- as they eventually will -- put THE BLUE MAX on Blu-ray (just noticed there's a pun to be made there), then please, please, please... a score commmentary with Nick Redman and the gang -- just like what was done on the Blu-ray of the original PLANET OF THE APES... NOT!!!!!!
"The Blue Max" I think was the film that got me into Mr. Goldsmith, or was it "The Sand Pebbles"? Anyways, I regard both scores as among the greatest ever written for the movies.

Only if they keep the morons who did the Patton and Longest Day waxfests away from it. No DNR application or edge enhancement please.
The Blue Max was one of my earlier entrance into Goldsmith's music. I've had two different version of the score and the poor sound have always bothered me. The new version is definitely THE version I've been waiting for. ORDERED!!!!
