I hope Intrada or another label would consider Pred 2 for 2011 release.wink I watched the movie recently and the entire score is about a little over 76 minutes including the extended tracks that were edited on the Varese album.

If so I wonder how many copies to release: 1500-2000?

Just thinking outload again smile

Thor, I think your comment is quite ludicrous. You say that Predator 2 is a superior score then go on to say the current CD is MORE than enough. The expanded score would be 80 minutes. The 1990 CD is 45. So...you'd be happy with half of a superior score.

You sense make no.

Actually, it makes perfect sense. The reason I think it's superior to 1 has to do with the more muscular quality of the orchestra, the concerty, meaty sound quality, the "End Titles" tour-de-force piece. That has to do with the music as music.

As a soundtrack it's superior too, but that's mostly because of PRESENTATION. It stops before the action music becomes too loud and too much, it has a couple of calm cues inserted here and there and it's just a well-rounded listening experience. The first soundtrack (boot, Varese & Intrada) is an abysmal listening experience that VERY quickly wears out its welcome and taints what is otherwise a pretty good score.

So....IMO PREDATOR 2 is superior BOTH as music AND as soundtrack.

I respect Thor's opposing C&C argument, but as I see it there's one big flaw in it. How do you know that the music as presented on the album has all the meat of the score? Without knowing any of the unreleased cues, how can you make an assumption that everything vital is presented?

Not to answer for Thor...but I will big grin

It doesn't matter what is missing, Thor is basing his opinion on the CD presented AS IS - no matter if spectacular cues are missing or not. He was also happy with the 25 minute Geffen presentation of Innerspace, which was missing huge vital cues - but - based on the presentation as is...he's happy

Exactly! You got it. smile

If anyone is interested, here is my chronological order of the main title, the action cue that should follow it (was included in the end credits) and el scorpio put against the movie (slightly shortened). The phase error was also corrected, so this is how the music was supposed to sound:

Why bother explaining this since it seems that most members here don't care about presentation or listening experience.

I still can't get over the sheer dumbness of this argument.

An expanded edition of any score doesn't mean the original version is harder to find. In fact, in many cases it is easier to find, as people who had the original are more likely to sell it in favor of the new one.

It's not like you're no longer allowed to have the original version. I'm perfectly happy, for example, with the single disc releases of the three Howard Shore LORD OF THE RINGS soundtracks. As such I never bought the big-ass "complete recording" sets. Nevertheless, I have no compulsion to bitch and moan whenever anyone discusses them. I'm happy with what I've got and personally don't have the desire for more. That's fine. For those who want it all, it's available and that's a wonderful thing for them. Those single discs didn't stop existing because a longer edition is out. Much like the original edition of PREDATOR 2 won't stop existing if someone puts out the whole thing.

Your initial reaction to the Burton / Elfman box was that you didn't want anything to be expanded because you already have it. Well if you get your wish, guess what! You won't need to buy the box at all because you already own everything that's in it! Unless you really want to sell your old copy of BEETLEJUICE for 89 cents on the Amazon Marketplace so you can spend a fortune getting the exact same thing again with a fancier package.

Why? Because it is my viewpoint/preference.

Very nice BigMacgyver! I love that solo sound when the car blows up in slow motion and that cop goes flying (just before the cues switch). I miss these kind of over the top gang wars in todays movies big grin

Regarding 30 minute album jobs.

I am a John Barry Fan, and I am sick of em.

That is exactly what I would want, in fact. Because in that case, I not only get shiny new CD's with the same program (perhaps remastered with better liner notes too!), but also a DVD, book and hopefully some completely unreleased pieces!

A review from Amazon.co.uk

When I first purchased this CD, something about it bothered me. It lacked space, and bass. I put it down to the possibility that the CD had been mastered in one of those short-lived spatialising tools such as RSS or QSound. I dragged the CD out recently, and this time I ran it through a phase-correlation meter, and saw massive phase error. The two channels are 180 degrees out of phase throughout the CD!
What this means is that when the left speaker is pushing out on a bass hit, the right is sucking in, which leads to sound cancelling out in mid-air! The upshot is that the mix sounds vague and centre-less, and unlistenable in headphones. I phase-reversed the right channel in SoundForge and presto, one sparkling and vibrant soundtrack... In simple terms, this is a flawed product spoilt by a school-boy error in mastering, and should be avoided unless you can rip it and phase-invert it. Otherwise sadly, it really is a cracking score. The end-titles are amazing...

I've e-mailed Varese about this many times but keep getting the same old answer of "we'll look into it".

"We'll look into it" is polite for "Don't hold your breath." Why would you e-mail them many times? If many people e-mail once, it makes a release more likely. If one person e-mails many times, that person'll just get annoying.

Obviously I meant over a long period of time. Many 5 times since about 2002.

I emailed Varese for this request along w/some other titles. It wasn't a hug list but atleast five previous Varese titles.

They didn't respond but I don't mind. I'm guessing they know what we want and are looking into our requests...including Pred 2.

Do they still have the rights even after 20 years? Just curious, thanks. big grin

Apparently Varese own the rights in perpetuity. Since they are not in the habit of re-releasing their own scores I'd have to say 'NO' in response to the thread title.

They did re-release Total Recall, Aliens, The 'Burbs, The Omen, The Final Conflict, etc. you know.

Well maybe it would be resonable to release as mentioned before a couple of unreleased scores and one dx ed?
